Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a two-alarm fire Wednesday on Deborah Drive in Potomac, where a three-level townhome caught fire and spread to the attic and roof.
According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, functional smoke alarms alerted occupants, allowing an adult and child to safely evacuate. Firefighters rescued three dogs from the home, all of which were transported to an animal hospital for treatment. Approximately 85 firefighters responded, and one neighboring unit sustained collateral damage.
Investigators determined the fire was accidental and electrical in nature, stemming from multiple extension cords and power supplies used for outdoor lighting on the deck. Damage is estimated at more than $300,000, and one family has been displaced.
