Open House For Feedback on Upcoming Silver Spring Skate Park Takes Place Nov. 5th

Montgomery Parks is hosting an in-person open house on Wednesday, November 5th to gather community feedback on a new skate park coming to Long Branch Local Park in Silver Spring.

Attendees will have the chance to review several skate park design concepts and share their feedbackInput from the meeting will help shape the final skate park design, which will be built as part of thLong Branch Local Park renovation project 

“The skate park will be a great asset to the Long Branch community and will serve as a focal point of the overall park renovation,” said Evan Dintaman, project manager for Montgomery Parks. When combined with all of the new and upgraded amenities, the renovateLong Branch Local Park will provide safe spaces for active and passive recreation that cater to the entire family. 

While the open house will focus exclusively on the skate park design, Montgomery Parks is planning upgrades to nearly every other part of Long Branch Local Park. The parking and entrance will be improved, the playground will be completely renovateda new soccer field will be constructed, and the courts will be upgraded to include soccer, basketball, and a fitness area. The new skatepark is supported by $362,000 in bond bill funding requested by District 20 State Delegate David Moon and approved by the Maryland legislatureThe project is expected to be completed in 2027. A video overview of the renovation is available online. 

The park renovation is part of the Long Branch Parks Initiative, a strategic effort to enhance public spaces in the neighborhoods along the Long Branch stream.

About the Long Branch Parks Initiative:  
The Long Branch Parks Initiative aims to improve ten parks along Long Branch, a stream that runs through the heart of the community. The initiative takes a holistic approach to meeting public space needs – if an amenity or improvement does not fit in one park, it may be added to a nearby park.

  • Bridge replacement and stream restoration for the Long Branch Trail bridges at Domer, Clayborne, and Prospect within Long Branch Stream Valley Park 
  • Renovation of Long Branch-Garland Neighborhood Park 
  • Fish passage improvements under Piney Branch Road and stream restoration associated with Purple Line within Long Branch Stream Valley Park
