Former Darnestown Resident and NFL Hall of Famer Tom Mack Celebrates 82nd Birthday

Former Darnestown resident Tom Mack celebrated his 82nd birthday this week and was honored by the Los Angeles Rams during their recent game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Mack, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, was selected by the Rams with the second overall pick in the 1966 NFL Draft and went on to play left guard for the team for 13 seasons (1966–1978). During his remarkable career, he appeared in 184 consecutive games, starting 176 of them, and earned 11 Pro Bowl selections.

Before his professional career, Mack starred at the University of Michigan, where he helped lead the Wolverines to the 1964 Big Ten championship and a victory over Oregon State in the 1965 Rose Bowl. He was named first-team All-Big Ten in 1965 and was later inducted into the University of Michigan Athletic Hall of Honor in 2006. His professional achievements earned him induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999.

After retiring from football, Mack put his engineering degree from Michigan to use, working as an engineer and later as a lobbyist for Bechtel Group, Inc., headquartered in Reston, Virginia. From 1987 to 1993, Mack and his family called Darnestown home. His daughters, Katy and Cari, attended local schools, graduating from Seneca Valley and Quince Orchard High School, respectively.
