Jey’s Subs and Pizza, located in Jessup (Anne Arundel County, and about a half hour or less away from some parts of Montgomery County), has closed permanently. The restaurant was one of several former Jerry’s Subs & Pizza locations that rebranded in recent years but continued to serve a nearly identical menu featuring cheesesteaks, subs, and pizza.
The Jessup location had operated under the “Jey’s” name since parting ways with the Jerry’s franchise, maintaining the same layout, signage style, and menu that made the original chain a Maryland staple for decades. The closure follows the July shutdown of Jeffrey’s Subs and Pizza in Burtonsville, another independently run location that had previously operated as a Jerry’s before rebranding.
While both Jey’s and Jeffrey’s have closed, Jack’s Subs and Pizza (another former Jerry’s) remains open at 1305 West 7th Street, Suite 35, in Frederick, Maryland. According to the official Jerry’s Subs & Pizza website, only three Jerry’s-branded locations remain in Maryland. The last Jerry’s in Montgomery County closed in Silver Spring back in January.
The very first Jerry’s Subs & Pizza opened in Wheaton, Maryland, on University Boulevard in 1954. At its peak, the company boasted over 100 restaurants across the Mid-Atlantic region, becoming known for its “World Famous Cheesesteaks.” Over the years, however, the brand has significantly downsized, with many former franchisees choosing to operate independently under new names while keeping the same familiar recipes and format.
