Mezcal Cantina, located at 8777 1st Ave. in Silver Spring, has permanently closed. The restaurant, which opened in May as a rebrand of the former Tacos Way Mexican Grill, is now shut down, according to an employee at the company’s Washington DC location.
Mezcal Cantina was part of the same restaurant group as Tacos Way, with additional locations in Lutherville, MD, and Washington DC. The Silver Spring restaurant offered an expanded menu that included creative dishes such as Birria Grilled Cheese, Birria Pizza, and Ramen de Birria, along with tacos and other Mexican favorites.
The restaurant operated on the ground floor of the Arrive Silver Spring apartment building and had been active on social media while open, showcasing its menu and concept. No information has been shared yet regarding a future tenant for the space or any plans to reopen in another location.
