Plans for a high-end Eddie V’s Prime Seafood restaurant in Gaithersburg’s Lakelands community are no longer moving forward. The original plan included the restaurant being built alongside Lake Varuna located off of Great Seneca Hwy on Lakelands Dr.
In the summer of 2024, Lakelands LLC and Eddie V’s sought approval to construct a 10,000-square-foot restaurant at 151 Lakelands Drive, at the corner of Lakelands Drive and Great Seneca Highway, what would have been the seafood chain’s first Maryland location. The proposal generated strong reactions from residents, with many expressing concern over traffic and neighborhood impact. A community petition opposing the project quickly gathered more than 100 signatures in the days following the announcement.
By May 2025, the City of Gaithersburg’s planning department was still awaiting updated plans from the restaurant and property owner. However, that update has now arrived in the form of definitive news: Eddie V’s has withdrawn from the project.
A representative from commercial real estate firm KLNB confirmed that the property is once again available for lease. City officials also confirmed that Lakelands LLC is actively seeking a new restaurant tenant for the space. As of now, no new tenant has been announced for the prominent corner site situated along Lake Varuna on the edge of the Lakelands neighborhood.
