Maryland’s Newest 18-Hole Disc Golf Course is Now Open

Maryland’s newest disc-golf addition is already drawing a crowd. Montgomery Parks softly opened its first-ever 18-hole disc golf course at Northwest Branch Recreational Park in Silver Spring on November 8, and local players wasted no time hitting the fairways. More than 100 rounds were played and logged on UDisc, one of the sport’s most widely used apps, during the course’s opening weekend.

“The public has been asking for more disc golf courses, and we are thrilled to deliver,” said Evan Dintaman, project manager for Montgomery Parks. “Disc golf is easy to learn, fun for all ages, and a great way to enjoy the outdoors. If you can throw a frisbee, you can play disc golf.”

Located at 1313 Bonifant Road, the free-to-play course is open daily during daylight hours and is designed for both beginners and experienced players. The layout consists of two nine-hole loops, each offering a variety of challenges similar to traditional golf, players aim to complete every hole in as few throws as possible. Visitors must bring their own discs, which are sold at many local sporting goods stores and online retailers.

The course sits next to the National Capital Trolley Museum and shares its parking lot, though the museum building is still reserved exclusively for museum visitors. Montgomery Parks is already preparing to enhance the new course. Construction begins this winter on several upcoming amenities, including a shaded plaza with a pavilion, picnic tables, bike racks, portable restrooms, and a drinking fountain.

A full grand opening celebration for the new course is scheduled for summer 2026, once all improvements are complete. M-NCPPC owns and operates an 18-hole disc golf course at Calvert Road Park in Prince George’s County, and there is a 27-hole, public disc golf course at Seneca Creek State Park in Germantown.
