MCPS Seeking Community Feedback on 2026–2027 School Year Calendar

Montgomery County Public Schools is gathering community feedback on three proposed calendar drafts for the 2026–2027 school year, marking the second phase of the district’s calendar development process. MCPS is asking students, staff, families, and community members to review the options and share input before the final calendar is presented to the Board of Education.

According to MCPS, the calendar must align with Board Policy IDA, which requires consideration of educational interests, operational needs, state-mandated closures, minimum instructional day and credit-hour requirements, assessment schedules, professional development days, early release days, and contingency plans for inclement weather or emergencies.

The district notes that the goal is to provide a calendar that supports effective teaching and learning, professional growth, and a continued commitment to equity and community engagement. MCPS has released three draft calendar options:

Draft A

  • First week of school: Week of August 31, 2026
  • Winter break: Thursday December 24, 2026 through Friday January 1, 2027
  • Spring break: Friday March 26 through Friday April 2, 2027
  • Last day for students: Wednesday, June 23, 2027

Draft B

  • First week of school: Week of August 24, 2026
  • Winter break: Thursday December 24, 2026 through Friday January 1, 2027
  • Spring break: Friday March 26 through Friday April 2, 2027
  • Last day for students: Tuesday, June 15, 2027

Draft C

  • First week of school: Week of August 24, 2026

  • Winter break: Wednesday December 23, 2026 through Friday January 1, 2027

  • Spring break: Friday March 26 through Friday April 2, 2027

  • Last day for students: Wednesday, June 16, 2027

All three options maintain the same spring break window and only vary slightly in the timing of the first week of school, the start of winter break, and the final student day.

MCPS will compile feedback before the school board votes on a final calendar. Community members can review all three drafts and submit input through the district’s online survey.
