The team at Montgomery County-based Comfort Cases is giving the community a behind-the-scenes look at a special moment captured earlier this year. A film crew from HBO Max visited both the Comfort Cases National Center and the Scheer family farm in Montgomery County to shoot footage for an upcoming episode of Somewhat Familiar with host Pedro Andrade.
Somewhat Familiar with Pedro Andrade is a documentary series on Max in which journalist Pedro Andrade travels the world exploring what “family” and fatherhood mean across different cultures. The show blends his own journey into fatherhood with the stories of diverse families in Italy, China, Japan, the U.S., and beyond.
The visit included time spent with founder Rob Scheer, the entire Scheer family, and many of the organization’s dedicated volunteers. The crew also joined the family for dinner and filmed throughout the day, highlighting both the personal story behind Comfort Cases and the nonprofit’s mission to support children in foster care across the country.
Comfort Cases also shared its appreciation for several local partners who helped make the filming possible. Ted’s Bulletin, Chop Shop Butchery Maryland, and Gemelli’s Italian Market, all in Gaithersburg, each hosted portions of the production, offering additional settings that showcased the heart of the Montgomery County community.
The episode featuring the Scheer family is set to air on Tuesday, November 18, and the organization says they could not be more excited for the world to learn more about Rob Scheer’s journey and the powerful impact Comfort Cases has made nationwide.
