Shake Shack Secures Almost $1 Million Permit For Upcoming Montgomery County Location

Back in June, we let you know that Shake Shack would be coming soon to Downtown Bethesda. The burger restaurant has received a permit valued at nearly $1 million as it prepares to begin construction.

According to Maryland Newsletters, the New York-based burger chain submitted a $980,000 interior build-out permit for its upcoming location at 7535 Old Georgetown Road, signaling major progress on the project. The restaurant will move into the former SunTrust bank space on the ground floor of Element 28, an apartments-over-retail development at one of Bethesda’s busiest intersections.

The upcoming Bethesda location will become Shake Shack’s fourth in Montgomery County, joining existing restaurants in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands neighborhood, Westfield Montgomery Mall, and Cabin John Village in Potomac, home to the county’s first Shake Shack, which opened in 2018. Once open, the Bethesda restaurant will add another fast-casual burger option to the area, joining nearby Five Guys and Z Burger.
