Montgomery County Announces Thanksgiving Transit Schedule Changes

Montgomery County announced Thanksgiving Day transportation changes, including MCDOT offices and TRiPS commuter stores being closed, Ride On services operating on modified or Sunday schedules, and public parking being free on Nov. 28.

Regional transit adjustments include Metro operating reduced Sunday service, no MARC Train service on Thanksgiving, and limited MTA Commuter Bus service, with full details available on county and state transit websites.

Per the news release: “Below are Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s (MCDOT) and partners’ transportation-related schedule changes for the Thanksgiving holiday, Thursday, Nov. 27.

  • MCDOT offices - Closed.
  • Ride On bus service – Will operate on a Sunday schedule. View route schedules here.
  • Ride On Flash bus service – The Orange Route will operate on a Weekend/Holiday The Blue Route (typically, weekday only) will not be in service.
  • TRiPS Silver Spring commuter store – Will be closed.
  • TRiPS mobile commuter store – Will be closed.
  • Public parking garages, lots, curbside meters – Free on Thursday, Nov. 28, payment resumes Friday, Nov. 29.
  • Metrorail and Metrobus – Metrorail will operate on a “Reduced Sunday Service” with trains running from 7 a.m. to midnight. Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule. On Friday, Nov. 29 Metro will operate on a regular schedule.
  • MARC Train – No service on all three lines. On Friday, Nov. 29 the Penn Line will operate on a Saturday schedule and there will be no service on the Brunswick and Camden lines. Learn more at mta.maryland.gov/marc-holiday-service.
  • MTA Commuter bus – Will not operate on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29, with the exception of Route 201 (Gaithersburg – BWI Business District), which will operate on the Weekend/Holiday “S” schedule on both days. Learn more at mta.maryland.gov/thanksgiving-day-service.
