Toys“R”Us Set to Open Maryland Flagship Store This Month

Update: Toys “R” Us will open on Wednesday, November 26th. More info here.

A new Toys“R”Us flagship store is expected to open at Arundel Mills mall in Hanover by the end of the month, according to a mall employee who spoke with us on Sunday. While an exact opening date has not yet been announced, the store is described as opening “very soon,” placing Maryland among the first states to receive one of the brand’s new full-scale locations.

The return of a flagship Toys“R”Us to Maryland is especially meaningful for local families. The nation’s very first Toys“R”Us opened in Rockville in 1957, laying the foundation for what would become one of the most recognizable toy retailers in the world. Now, nearly 70 years later, the brand is preparing to launch a major new store in the state during the peak of holiday shopping season.

This flagship opening is part of Toys“R”Us’ nationwide expansion announced in October, which includes both permanent flagship stores and seasonal holiday shops in partnership with Go! Retail Group. Maryland is seeing both forms of the rollout, with a temporary Toys“R”Us Holiday Shop already open at The Mall in Columbia.

“Toys“R”Us is celebrating the holidays with a major U.S. expansion,” the company shared in its October announcement, noting that the goal is to bring the brand’s classic family-focused shopping experience back to more communities.

“Following the tremendous success of our Toys“R”Us flagship stores, we are thrilled to continue expanding through our partnership with Go! Retail Group,” said Jamie Uitdenhowen, Executive Vice President of Toys“R”Us at WHP Global. “This next phase of growth brings the magic of Toys“R”Us to even more communities across the country, just in time for the holidays.”

The flagship stores feature many of the year’s most popular brands, including LEGO, Barbie, Hot Wheels, NERF, and Paw Patrol. Each location is designed to deliver the nostalgic, excitement-filled experience that has defined Toys“R”Us for generations.

“This holiday marks an important step in our expansion strategy,” added Gideon Schlessinger, CEO of Go! Retail Group. “Through both flagship stores and seasonal holiday shops, we are delivering the same experience nationwide and meeting consumer demand during the most important season of the year.”

The Arundel Mills flagship will join new locations opening across Illinois, California, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, New York, and Kansas. Additional openings will be announced throughout the season. We will share an exact opening date as soon as it is confirmed.
