Construction Expected to Begin Soon on Weis Markets at Long-Awaited Clarksburg Town Center

Construction is moving closer to beginning at the long-awaited Weis Markets in Clarksburg Town Center, according to a new update from Elm Street Development. The project, part of the community’s upcoming retail core, has reached several milestones that position it for visible progress in the months ahead.

Elm Street Development announced that gas pumps for the future Weis have been approved and that building permits for most of the retail buildings are advancing. Weis Markets is currently working through its own permit plans, with approval expected in early 2026. The grocery store will anchor the town center’s retail offerings, a key piece of a development that has seen years of delays.

In preparation for construction, Washington Gas will relocate a gas line at Clarksburg Square Road and St. Clair Road later this year. That work must be completed before land development can begin. Site work is expected to start in the first half of 2026, followed by vertical construction soon after. Elm Street noted that leasing for additional retail spaces could begin as early as late this year or early next year as timelines become more defined.

The Weis Markets location will serve as a major addition for Clarksburg residents, who have long awaited a full-service grocery store to kick-off the town center construction. More updates are expected as permitting and scheduling continue to move forward.
