Driver Killed in Early Morning Collision in Damascus

Update: All lanes of MD-27 (Ridge Road) at Kings Valley Road have reopened. Expect residual delays.
Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue Services (MCFRS) were dispatched at 4:05 a.m. on Sunday morning to a single-vehicle fatal collision on Route 27 in Damascus.

The roadway is closed between Kings Valley and Hawkes Road, and drivers are being asked to seek an alternate route while the investigation continues.

MCPD Update:

“Responders found a gray 2013 Honda Civic coupe that had overturned in an embankment. The driver, an adult male and the sole occupant, had been ejected from the vehicle and was located in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary findings suggest the Honda was traveling southbound when the driver lost control. Evidence at the scene indicates alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating. A news release will be issued when more information becomes available, including the name of the decedent following proper notification of next of kin.”

We will provide an update if additional verified information becomes available.
