The Amazing Art Studio, a longtime local favorite for pottery painting and hands-on art experiences, is expanding with a second location coming to the newly developed White Oak Town Center. The studio’s ownership has confirmed that the new site will be an additional studio rather than a relocation. The existing Downtown Crown location at 115 Crown Park Drive in Gaithersburg will remain open.
The Amazing Art Studio is a local, woman-owned, family and veteran operated business, known as the largest do-it-yourself art studio in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Guests can walk in or reserve time to participate in pottery painting, mosaics, fused glass, board art and other creative projects, with staff available to assist artists of all ages.
In an email to The MoCo Show, the ownership team shared that the lease for the White Oak Town Center location has been signed and planning and architectural drawings have been completed. The studio is now set to begin the permit process, so an opening timeframe is not yet available.
Owners explained that the decision to expand into White Oak followed months of research, site visits and discussions with their commercial realtor. They said they prefer to grow locally because they have more than two decades of experience working with county processes, regulations and permitting and enjoy being an active part of the Montgomery County community. They also wanted enough distance between the Downtown Crown and White Oak studios to avoid drawing from the same customer base while still benefiting from strong brand recognition. The team emphasized their preference for locations near major roads and highways, in centers with complementary businesses such as restaurants and family-oriented destinations, and in developments that are either new or well maintained and align with the studio’s aesthetic. They added that White Oak’s proximity to Silver Spring and Washington, D.C., along with anticipated future investment in the area, made it an especially appealing choice.
In addition to daily walk-in art projects, The Amazing Art Studio hosts birthday parties, themed events, special classes, drop-off events, adult nights, team-building gatherings and more. All project types are available at all times, and reservations are recommended for larger groups or during peak hours.
The business has deep roots in Montgomery County. Owners Julya and John Myers originally took over a small plaster-painting shop called Plaster, Paint & Party in September 2000. As the business grew, they opened The Amazing Art Studio in November 2003 and broadened their offerings to include pottery, fused glass, mosaics and board art before eventually relocating to Downtown Crown, where the studio continues to draw customers from across the region.
The upcoming White Oak Town Center studio will give East County residents easier access to the studio’s full range of activities. Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
