Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to major utility issues affecting the 11200 block of Georgia Avenue in Wheaton on Wednesday, where a significant water leak and power outage impacted multiple large buildings, including the Arrive Wheaton apartments and the Safeway store.
According to MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer, an estimated 300,000 gallons of water flooded a lower level sub-basement area, power was shut down as a precaution, traffic signals were affected, and as many as 1,000 residents and occupants may be impacted. Building inspectors and emergency management officials have been notified.
