Students in Montgomery County Public Schools’ Automotive Trades Foundation (ATF) and Information Technology Foundation programs are gearing up for their first public sale of the school year, taking place this Saturday, December 6, from 9am to 11am at Gaithersburg High School. The event will feature a wide selection of student-refurbished used cars along with professionally reconditioned computers, all restored as part of hands-on career training. ATF operates as a licensed, student-run used car dealership, giving high school automotive students real-world experience in vehicle maintenance, repair, sales, and customer service. The program, established in 1978 through partnerships with local industry, pairs classroom instruction with extensive shop work, preparing students for careers in technical service, sales, management, and other automotive fields. Many seniors also spend two days a week working at area dealerships, gaining additional training and building early employment connections.
Students in the Information Technology Foundation program also contribute by refurbishing computers made available for purchase at the sale. Both programs offer MCPS students valuable workforce experience while allowing the public to support career and technical education through the purchase of affordable vehicles and equipment.
