Damascus Native Mindy Miller Now Competing for a Spot in the Finals of NBC’s The Voice

Damascus native Mindy M. Miller is continuing her rise on the national stage as she competes to secure a spot in the finals of Season 28 of NBC’s The Voice. Miller, who earned her place on Team Snoop, is now relying on viewer votes to advance, with voting open until Tuesday morning at 7 a.m.

Miller was born in Frederick and raised in Damascus before eventually making her way to Nashville, where she performs as a singer-songwriter rooted in the Maryland country and bluegrass traditions she grew up with. Her website describes her style as a blend of “soulful storytelling” and “classic country phrasing,” shaped heavily by years of performing throughout the mid-Atlantic music scene.

Her musical journey began early. She learned guitar from her father and performed alongside his band, sang in church, and joined family jam sessions that helped shape her vocal and stylistic foundation. As a teenager, she became immersed in the region’s classic bluegrass influences, including groups like the Country Gentlemen and Johnson Mountain Boys, frequent performers at Maryland and Virginia clubs and festivals.

Miller discussed those early days in an interview with Notes From The Purple Ape Studios, recalling one of her earliest performance venues: “We had a music venue open in my hometown called The Music Café. It was a listening room with a small café where you could only drink coffee/tea and non-alcohol beverages because my town was a ‘dry’ town. I began playing open mic night there to eventually have my own headlined shows there before I could drive.”

Years before appearing on The Voice, she had already built a resume that included performing in front of major acts such as Reba, Post Malone, Phil Vassar, Pam Tillis, Jamey Johnson, Snoop Dogg, Michael Bublé, Niall Horan, Lizzo, Zac Brown, Vince Gill, and many others. Her voice, often described as carrying “soul, grit, and grace,” has continued to captivate both audiences and fellow musicians.

Now, as she competes to earn a spot in the finals of The Voice, Miller has become a local favorite for Montgomery County residents cheering on one of their own. Her authentic sound, deep roots, and standout performances under Team Snoop have placed her firmly in contention as voting continues.

Fans can support her by voting until 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. Miller continues to perform regularly in Nashville and is planning for a 2026 tour, but for now, her focus, and the community’s, is on keeping her run alive on one of television’s biggest stages.
