The City of Gaithersburg will hold a community outreach meeting on December 18, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 16 South Summit Avenue to present the concept design for the renovation of Walder Park.
According to the City of Gaithersburg, representatives from LSG Landscape Architecture, the architecture and engineering firm contracted for the project, will lead the presentation, and City staff will be on hand to answer questions from residents.
Walder Park, located at the intersection of Cedar Avenue and West Deer Park Drive, spans approximately 2.8 acres and has served the community since the early 1970s. The upcoming renovation aims to modernize the park with updated amenities, new features, and improvements to stormwater management to prevent runoff issues affecting nearby properties. Some existing elements may remain in place, while others could be relocated or reimagined within the redesigned layout.
The project is moving forward following the Mayor and City Council’s approval of Resolution R-51-25, authorizing design and engineering work for the full-site renovation. With the contract now signed, City staff are preparing to begin the design phase. The December 18 meeting will occur at the 60 percent concept design stage, offering residents an early look at the proposed improvements and an opportunity to provide input before plans advance further.
