Board of Education Approves 2026-2027 School Calendar

The Montgomery County Board of Education has officially approved the traditional and innovative school calendars for the 2026-2027 school year. The decision was made during the Board’s meeting on December 11.

The traditional calendar includes 181 instructional days with four contingency days built in. Students will participate in a non-instructional Student Transition Day on Monday, August 24, 2026, followed by the first day of school on Tuesday, August 25. The final day of classes for students is scheduled for Wednesday, June 16, 2027. Winter break will run from December 23, 2026 through January 3, 2027, and spring break will take place March 26 through April 4, 2027. The calendar also includes state-required holidays and observances such as Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and designated religious and cultural closures.

The Board also approved the innovative calendar for Arcola Elementary School. This model features 206 instructional days, beginning on July 6, 2026, and includes an extended break in August. While the schedule differs from the traditional model, it still aligns with MCPS for major holidays and countywide closures. The innovative calendar adds more instructional time and incorporates unique scheduling elements specific to the school’s academic program.

MCPS will share additional details and downloadable calendar formats as the school year approaches.
