John Cena is officially set to wrestle the final match of his legendary in-ring career, and it will happen in Washington, DC on Saturday night.
The 17-time world champion will headline WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, 2025, at Capital One Arena, taking on Gunther in what WWE is billing as Cena’s last match. The showdown brings together one of the most decorated performers in wrestling history against one of the most dominant champions of the modern era.
For Cena, the choice of Washington is fitting. One of the most recognizable figures in professional wrestling, he has competed in countless major matches over the past two decades, including a memorable night in 2011 when he defended the WWE Championship against R-Truth at the then-Verizon Center during the Capitol Punishment pay-per-view. Ending his career in the nation’s capital adds historical weight to a night already loaded with emotion.
Demand for the farewell has been extraordinary, with ticket prices reflecting the magnitude of the moment. Front-row seat packages have reportedly reached as high as $25,000, while resale prices throughout the arena have climbed well into four figures for premium lower-level seats. Even upper-level tickets have been moving quickly as fans rush to secure a spot for what is being promoted as a once-in-a-lifetime event, and are now going for about $500.
Montgomery County resident Mike Herson, who is attending the show, said the price is secondary to the experience. “It’s not often that you get a guaranteed chance to see someone’s last match that’s one of the greatest of all time in their profession, so it’s an experience I’ll have forever,” Herson said.
Gunther, known as “The Ring General,” enters the match as one of WWE’s most imposing figures, with multiple championship reigns and a reputation for brutal, methodical in-ring performances. The matchup has quickly been framed as a symbolic passing of the torch, pairing Cena’s legacy with a star who represents WWE’s present and future.
With the lights of Capital One Arena set to shine on Cena one final time, December 13 is shaping up to be one of the most significant nights in WWE history, and one of the most expensive tickets Washington sports and entertainment fans have seen in years.
