The Montgomery County Department of Police said Sunday morning that it has increased patrols and police visibility around Jewish institutions across the county as a precautionary measure.
In a statement shared at 10:12am, MCPD said the increased presence is being implemented “out of an abundance of caution,” while emphasizing that there is no known threat to Montgomery County at this time.
The announcement comes as the Hanukkah season begins and follows a recent shooting at a Hanukkah celebration in Australia. MCPD said the additional patrols are intended to provide reassurance and enhance safety for faith-based communities throughout the county.
Police officials stressed that they remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and religious institutions. MCPD also encouraged community members to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity by calling 911.
The department said public awareness and cooperation play an important role in maintaining safety across Montgomery County.
