Thai Two Cents, From the Team Behind Kiin Imm Thai, Moving Closer Towards Opening in Gaithersburg

Thai Two Cents is continuing to move forward with plans for its upcoming Gaithersburg location, with a key licensing step scheduled later this month for the upcoming restaurant in the Spectrum Town Center.

The restaurant has a hearing with Montgomery County’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services for a new Class H Beer and Wine License, on-sale only, on Thursday, December 18. Thai Two Cents is being opened by the same ownership group behind Kiin Imm Thai in Rockville, well known locally for its Thai cuisine.

The Gaithersburg restaurant will be located at Spectrum Town Center, taking over the former California Tortilla space, which operated at the site for roughly a decade before closing in November 2024. As previously reported, the restaurant will be named Thai Two Cents and is planned for 255 Spectrum Avenue. The owners have been targeting an opening by the end of the year, though that timeline could extend into 2026 depending on construction progress and permitting.

Kiin Imm Thai has built a strong reputation in the region for its menu inspired by traditional Thai street food. The Rockville location was previously recognized by Eater DC as one of the “15 Standout Thai Restaurants Around DC,” with a menu featuring classic street food dishes and chef-driven specialties such as fried tofu larb, boat noodle soup, and rotating monthly specials.
