A fundraiser has been launched to support the Duarte family of Aspen Hill after their home was heavily damaged in a fire on Monday, December 15, leaving them displaced just days before Christmas.
According to the fundraiser, the family lost nearly everything in the blaze, and donations will go directly to Marali Duarte and her family, with organizers encouraging those unable to donate to share the campaign.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to the single-family home fire on Beaver Terrace shortly before 2:45 p.m. after multiple 911 calls reported a house and rear deck on fire. MCFRS says the fire originated from a vehicle fire in the driveway that spread into the structure, causing an estimated $400,000 in damage, including $300,000 to the home and $100,000 to contents. Four adults, one child, and a dog were displaced, no injuries were reported, and approximately 85 firefighters worked the scene in extremely cold conditions.
