Nearly 200 Traffic Stops Lead to 23 DUI Arrests During MCPD Holiday Enforcement

The Montgomery County Police Department says its Alcohol Holiday Task Force is ramping up enforcement efforts as the holiday season continues, with dozens of arrests and hundreds of citations already issued during a recent multi-day crackdown.

According to MCPD, task force officers devoted their full attention to detecting alcohol-related offenses during the week of December 10 through December 14. During that five-day period, officers conducted 190 traffic stops across the county.

Those stops resulted in 372 traffic citations, 206 warnings, and 27 repair orders. Officers also issued one criminal citation and cited two drivers for alcohol restriction violations. In addition to the citations, officers administered six breath tests, made one criminal arrest unrelated to DUI, and arrested 23 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs.

Police emphasized that the reported numbers only reflect arrests and enforcement actions made by Alcohol Holiday Task Force officers. They do not include additional DUI arrests or enforcement activity carried out by regular patrol officers during the same time period, meaning the total number of DUI arrests countywide was higher.

MCPD says the increased enforcement will continue throughout the holiday season as part of an effort to deter impaired driving and keep roadways safer during a time of year traditionally associated with higher alcohol consumption.
