Two Maryland Favorites Make Eater DC’s “17 Best Steakhouses Around D.C.”

While there are more than just two great places to grab a steak in Montgomery County, Silver Spring and Bethesda both scored big on Eater DC’s latest roundup of standout steakhouses in the Washington region. In the publication’s updated 17 Best Steakhouses Around D.C. guide, J. Hollinger’s Waterman’s Chophouse in Silver Spring and Medium Rare’s Bethesda location were highlighted as must-try destinations for steak lovers. Charley Prime was removed from the list as it made the transition to Charley: A Chesapeake Chophouse and Bar.

J. Hollinger’s Waterman’s Chophouse, a standout in downtown Silver Spring’s dining scene, earned praise for its classic chophouse offerings and elevated steak selections. The restaurant’s menu features a range of premium cuts like herb-rubbed porterhouse, bavette with garlic-parsley butter, filet with creamed spinach, and even a tomahawk for two, all paired with fresh seafood add-ons such as lobster, jumbo shrimp, and poached crab. This blend of traditional steakhouse fare with seafood and seasonal ingredients has helped put this Maryland outpost on the regional steak map.

Just a short drive south in Bethesda, Medium Rare earned its place on the list for its approachable yet satisfying prix-fixe steak frites experience. For around $32.95, diners enjoy a three-part meal of rustic bread, mixed greens salad, and top sirloin steak served with hand-cut fries and the restaurant’s signature secret sauce, a formula that has made the concept a local favorite since its expansion into multiple area locations (and beyond).
