Wind Advisory Issued as Strong Cold Front Brings Gusts Up to 55 MPH Friday

Strong winds are expected across Montgomery County and the region on Friday as a powerful cold front moves through the area overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS says the front will push through late tonight into early Friday morning, followed by gusty westerly winds during the day Friday. A Wind Advisory is in effect from noon to 7 p.m. Friday for much of central Maryland, including Montgomery County, as well as Washington DC, and parts of Virginia.

Forecasters expect sustained west winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts between 45 and 55 mph possible. The strongest winds are anticipated during the afternoon and early evening hours, with gusty conditions potentially lingering into Friday night.

The NWS warns that the winds could blow around unsecured outdoor objects, bring down tree limbs, and cause isolated power outages. Driving may also become difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles, due to sudden strong gusts.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, use caution while driving, and be prepared for possible brief power disruptions as the front moves through.
