Metro Rewind Returns for 2025 With Personalized Transit Stats and New Features

Metro has launched the 2025 edition of Metro Rewind, giving riders a personalized look back at their year using transit across the region.

Now in its third year, Metro Rewind is available at MetroRewind.com and features an updated, more immersive experience with expanded data, new achievement badges, and a visually striking art collage inspired by the DMV. Metro describes this year’s design as a “love letter” to the region, blending homages to local art with nods to the transit system’s history. The layered collage reflects how riders experience the region in different ways while still being connected through Metro.

Metro Rewind turns individual ridership data into a shareable snapshot highlighting how customers moved throughout the year. Riders can see a wide range of stats, including the number of bus and rail trips taken, rides by month, their longest riding streak, miles traveled, and how they rank among other Metro customers. The report also includes carbon dioxide emissions saved by using transit, top Metro Rail stations and bus routes, rankings among other riders at those locations, and a personalized “Metro archetype.” Riders can even purchase merchandise tied to their top station.

To access Metro Rewind, customers enter the 20-digit SmarTrip number found on the back of their card or in their Apple or Google Wallet. A new, highly requested feature allows customers to input multiple SmarTrip cards, which is especially helpful for riders who may have replaced or lost a card during the year. If a card was registered, older SmarTrip numbers can be found at smartrip.wmata.com.

Metro noted that Rewind is launching earlier than in prior years, meaning some riders may see lower totals than expected. The 2025 data currently covers January 1 through December 5, with full-year statistics to be available after the New Year.

According to Metro, overall ridership in 2025 is up more than 6 percent compared to 2024 across Metro Rail, Metro Bus, and Metro Access. So far this year, customers have taken more than 256 million trips, traveled over 1 billion miles on Metro, and collectively avoided an estimated 319 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions by choosing transit over driving or ride-hailing.
