Construction is underway at the former Party City space in the Kentlands, prompting questions from residents about what may be moving in next.
Party City, which operated for more than 40 years nationwide, closed all 700-plus of its locations earlier this year. Locally, stores in Gaithersburg, Rockville, and Wheaton all shuttered by March 2025, including the Kentlands location.
While no new tenant has signed on yet for the Kentlands space, the current work is focused on preparing the property for future occupants. According to information shared with The MoCoShow, the construction includes façade renovations along with interior modifications to divide the former single large retail footprint into three separate spaces.
Once the renovations are complete, the newly configured spaces will be available for leasing, opening the door for multiple businesses to move in rather than a single large tenant.
