Over 100 New Restaurants Opened in 2025; Here’s the Full List

2025 was a strong year for restaurant openings in Montgomery County, Maryland. According to a report by FOX5’s Homa Bash, new restaurant openings outpaced closures. Below is a list of restaurants that opened in 2025 (full list of closures to follow later in the week).

3 Brothers Lounge (Wheaton) opened at 2405 Price Avenue, taking over the space previously occupied by Hakuna Matata Grill. The restaurant serves “delicious and authentic Italian dishes paired with a lively nightlife atmosphere.”

Ah’haan (Gaithersburg) opened this summer at 237 Kentlands Blvd., in the space formerly occupied by Good Fortune Cafe. Ah’haan is a sister restaurant to the well-known Bangkok Garden, a MoCo family business that has been serving the community since 1984. The original Bangkok Garden served Bethesda for 37 years and its legacy continues with a Rockville location. The new establishment is expected to be a welcome addition to the Kentlands dining scene, with the owners promising to bring back some of the original, beloved dishes from the old Bangkok Garden menu.

Andy’s Pizza (Bethesda & Gaithersburg) opened new locations this year at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda and at 145 Commerce Pl. in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands. The company opened its first Montgomery County location in 2023 at 4600 East West Highway in Bethesda and also operates restaurants in Adams Morgan, NoMa, Navy Yard, Shaw, and multiple sites in Northern Virginia. Andy’s Pizza is known for its 72 hour cold fermented dough baked in a New York deck oven, creating a crisp crust, chewy interior, and subtle sour flavor. The menu also includes salads, wings, fries, and more.

Anita’s Restaurant (Rockville), offering “Authentic Guatemalan Cuisine,” opened at 1488 Rockville Pike, taking over the former site of Joe’s Noodle House. Menu items include chuchitos, churrasco chapín, enchiladas chapinas, garnachas, chile relleno, and carne adobada. The restaurant is not associated with Virginia-based Anita’s New Mexico Style Mexican Food.

BabyCat Brewery (Bethesda), the beloved Kensington-based brewery known for its community atmosphere and award-winning craft beers, has opened its brand-new taproom at 4850 Rugby Avenue in Bethesda. The Bethesda taproom blends BabyCat’s trademark warmth with a few new surprises. “Bethesda has 100 bars, but you can’t find something like this,” said Taproom Manager Abby LeNoire. “Throw a stone and you’ll hit a bar, but this feels like the house party you want to be in.” The new space features a full kitchen and a full bar, differentiating it from the Kensington location, which relies on rotating food trucks.

Bagels & Grinds (Potomac) opened at 9812 Falls Road in the Potomac Village shopping center in the space that was previously occupied by The Potomac Village Deli. Bagels & Grinds is owned by Adam and Courtney Greenberg, owners of Potomac Pizza and the Hunter’s Bar and Grill,  both of which are also located in Potomac Village. Bagels & Grinds is connected to Potomac Pizza via an open concept, which allows guests to move between the two restaurants. Potomac Pizza has shifted to counter service at lunch with table service in the evening. Bagels & Grinds will also launch an updated menu on Wednesday across all locations. Similar to its College Park and Hanover locations, Potomac has a New York Water Purification System to replicate the New York water that makes an authentic NY bagel.

Ba Le (Rockville) opened at 765 Rockville Pike, Suite F-G, in the Ritchie Center. The concept centerS on classic Vietnamese flavors, offering a wide range of bánh mì varieties, noodle salads, rice plates, soups, and vegan options.Highlights from the menu include the Special Bánh Mì (a traditional Saigon-style combination with pâté, ham, headcheese, and pork roll), BBQ Pork, Roasted Pork Belly, and Vietnamese Chicken. Seafood lovers can look forward to options like Shrimp Bánh Mì and Basa Fish Fillet, while vegetarians will find selections such as Spicy Vegan Lemongrass Beef and Shroom & Tofu Noodle Soup. In addition to savory dishes, Ba Le offers a lineup of colorful specialty vegan desserts such as Buddha Love, White Diamond, and Sea Pearl, featuring ingredients like lotus seeds, lychee, jackfruit, and coconut milk. Guests can also enjoy Vietnamese iced coffee, Thai iced tea, and other refreshing drinks.

Bao Bei (Rockville) opened its long-awaited brick-and-mortar location at 12055 Rockville Pike in the Montrose Crossing shopping center. The fast-casual restaurant is serving up authentic Taiwanese street food. Founded by the talented and Montgomery County-raised Kevin Hsieh, Bao Bei has built a loyal following from its roots as a ghost kitchen and its national television appearance, and it is now ready to serve the community from its new brick-and-mortar location. First look video available below. Kevin Hsieh’s grew up in Montgomery County and graduated from Gaithersburg High School. A former financial analyst, Hsieh decided to pursue his passion for food, inspired by his family’s culinary traditions. He launched Bao Bei as a “ghost kitchen” in a shared commercial space in North Bethesda, quickly gaining a reputation for his authentic Taiwanese flavors. Bao Bei’s popularity exploded when Hsieh and his team competed on Season 17 of the Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race.” As a finalist on the show, Hsieh gained national recognition for his creative and authentic take on Taiwanese comfort food, setting the stage for the next chapter of his business. The permanent space allows Hsieh to expand on the menu that made his ghost kitchen and food truck concept so successful. Diners can enjoy a range of Taiwanese street food staples, with the signature gua bao (Taiwanese steamed buns) at the heart of the menu. These handheld delights are filled with succulent braised pork belly, crispy fried chicken, or flavorful tofu, all topped with a traditional mix of pickled mustard greens, cilantro, and crushed peanuts. The menu also features other favorites like Taiwanese fried chicken cutlets, rice bowls, and sides.

Bethesda Bagels (Potomac) opened its latest store at 7951 Tuckerman Ln in Cabin John Village. The family-owned business, which has been a staple in the DMV area since its founding in 1982, has built a loyal following for its traditional, kettle-boiled bagels and a wide array of cream cheeses and deli sandwiches. The Cabin John Village location marks the sixth store for Bethesda Bagels in the region and the fourth in Montgomery County.

Big Papi’s Tacos (Rockville) opened at 201 E Middle Ln in Rockville Town Center in the former home of Domoishi/Asian Food Hall. Big Papi’s menu consists of items like carne asada tacos, quesabirria pizza, surf n turf tacos, walking tacos, birria egg rolls, buffalo wings, and birria ramen.

Bitez (Germantown), specializing in halal cuisine, opened its doors at 13525 Clopper Rd. in Germantown’s Seneca Plaza– located near Mamma Lena and Rio Grande. The restaurant offers a diverse menu that includes options such as chicken over rice, lamb gyro over rice, falafel over rice, pita wraps, salads, desserts, and drinks.

Bouboulina (North Bethesda) opened at 921 Meeting Street in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose neighborhood. The full-service American grill influenced by Mediterranean cuisine is named for Bouboulina, a heroine of the Greek War of Independence who commanded her own fleet and private army and became the first woman in world naval history to become an admiral. The restaurant features a wood-fired grill, premium steak cuts, fresh seafood and house baked breads with Mediterranean influences that celebrate the founders’ heritage and roots. Ted Xenohristos, Dimitri Moshovitis and Ike Grigoropoulos are behind Bouboulina, the team’s third restaurant at Pike & Rose, that joins a collection of popular and award-winning dining choices available in the neighborhood. Melina, which opened in 2021, is name after Dimitri’s daughter and is located on the street level of 909 Rose near the group’s first restaurant, French Mediterranean concept, Julii, which opened in 2018. The partners are also the co-founders of CAVA, the Mediterranean fast-casual concept, which is publicly held.

Bubbakoo’s Burritos (Clarksburg), the fast-casual Mexican-fusion restaurant chain known for its customizable burritos, tacos, and bowls, opened in November at the Market Hall at Clarksburg Premium Outlets (22705 Clarksburg Road). Founded in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, in 2008, Bubbakoo’s Burritos has grown rapidly across the country with a focus on fresh ingredients, creative flavor combinations, and a laid-back surf-inspired atmosphere. Guests can build their own burritos, bowls, tacos, quesadillas, or nachos with a wide range of proteins and toppings, including standout items like Nashville Hot Chicken, Korean BBQ Steak, and Crispy Shrimp. Bubbakoo’s Burritos also has an upcoming location at 16822 Georgia Avenue in Olney, scheduled to open in 2026.

Buffalo Wild Wings Go (Gaithersburg & Kensington) opened locations at 16256 Frederick Road (corner of 355 and Shady Grove Rd.) and 10518 Connecticut Avenue in Kensington. Buffalo Wild Wings Go is a scaled-down version of the traditional sports bar and restaurant, designed specifically for takeout and delivery. This opening follows our earlier reports about the company’s plans to expand its “Go” concept into the county, with this Gaithersburg store being the first to launch. Other “Go” locations have been announced for Burtonsville, and Olney.

Burger King (Wheaton) is now open in the Westfield Wheaton mall food court at 11160 Veirs Mill Road, taking over the space previously occupied by McDonald’s, which closed in January.

Cafe K (Silver Spring) opened at 1300 Spring Street, Suite 136 in July. The menu features fresh bagels, omelets, pancakes, challah French toast, farm-fresh eggs with toast, a selection of fresh pastries and croissants, lunch wraps (including tuna, egg salad, and baked salmon), build-your-own and specialty salads, pasta dishes, soups, customizable paninis, and coffee and espresso drinks made with Silver Spring-based Nagadi Coffee.

C&C Cafe (Germantown) opened its doors at 13012 Middlebrook Road in the Germantown Commons shopping center, taking over the former ShareTea location. The Korean bakery offers a variety of sweet and savory treats, including cakes, scones, and pastries, alongside a full drink menu featuring coffee, lattes, fruit teas, milk teas, and yogurt smoothies.

California Fish Grill (Rockville) opened its first Montgomery County location at 12238 Rockville Pike in November. Founded in 1998, California Fish Grill is a fast-casual seafood restaurant known for offering affordable, sustainably sourced seafood. The menu features grilled seafood plates, coastal tacos, hand-battered seafood, chowder, salads, and plant-based alternatives. As part of its sustainability commitment, California Fish Grill serves seafood rated Best Choice or Good Alternative by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program, or Eco-Certified by trusted third-party organizations. The company sources from fisheries and farms focused on ecosystem health to help ensure long-term seafood availability for future generations.

Celtic Cup Coffee (Silver Spring) opened in April at 8455 Colesville Road, Suite 101B. According to the shop, “At Celtic Cup Coffee, we strive to provide the absolute best coffee experience to our customers. Since each coffee drinker is different, the only path to that best experience is to work with each customer to find the right bean, the right roast, and the right preparation method for that individual. The process requires excellent communication skills, operational flexibility, and the very best responsibly sourced raw ingredients, backed by the expertise of a roast master with over 25 years of experience.”

Chateau (Rockville) opened in June at 1701 Rockville Pike in the Shops at Congressional Village shopping. The cafe serves handcrafted espresso drinks, a selection of sweet and savory pastries, artisanal cakes, and freshly baked goods.

Chef Ngee Kitchen Jollof Rice Drive Thru (Gaithersburg) opened at 18523 N. Frederick Ave. in the Gaithersburg S.C. shopping center in January.  Jollof rice is a popular West African dish made with long-grain rice, tomatoes, chilies, onions, and spices.

Chef Wang Kitchen (Rockville) opened at 199 E Montgomery Ave in Rockville Town Center– the former location of California Tortilla. Per the restaurant: “Chef Wang Kitchen offers a diverse and flavorful menu of authentic Chinese cuisine. With a focus on fresh ingredients and traditional cooking methods, their dishes include a variety of popular options, from stir-fries to noodles and rice dishes. Whether dining in or ordering for delivery, Chef Wang Kitchen delivers a satisfying culinary experience.”

Chipotle (Burtonsville), opened at 15701 Old Columbia Pike in the Burtonsville Crossing shopping center and features a drive-thru pick up lane.

Chopt (Olney) opened at 18123 Town Center Dr. in Olney. The made-to-order salad chain has additional Montgomery County locations in Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Potomac, and Rockville. Menu items include salads, bowls, and wraps with ingredients such as falafel, tofu, panko-fried chicken, and shrimp.

Classic Bakery (Olney) opened its newest location at 18195 Village Center Dr., its third overall, joining Gaithersburg and Tyson’s Corner.  The new Classic Bakery location takes over the space formerly occupied by Cold Stone, prior to its move within the shopping center.

The Crêpe Shoppe (Gaithersburg) opened at 202 Ellington Blv in Downtown Crown, offering a cozy space and a menu full of fresh-made crêpes, breakfast favorites, and salad bowls. The café blends Parisian inspiration with a modern local vibe, featuring warm wood tones, floral accents, and a menu that caters to all tastes. Guests can choose between breakfast crêpes (like The Classic Rise and The Sunrise), savory options (such as the Turkey Club, Veggie Delight, or Chicken Florentine), and an extensive list of sweet creations (including Nutella & Banana, The Charm, and White Chocolate Delight). Gluten-free and vegan batter options are also available.

Crisp & Juicy (Colesville) opened at 10100 Colesville Road. The longtime local Peruvian chicken chain, which celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2024, has additional Montgomery County locations in Kensington, Montgomery Village, Rockville, and Silver Spring. According to its website: “Smoky, salty, herbal and succulent, the birds almost live up to the name out front… if you hit Crisp and Juicy shortly after they’ve pulled birds from the oven, you’re likely to encounter a Peruvian chicken that borders on the ideal.”

Corner Bites (Rockville) is now open at 316 N Washington St., in the former location of 168 Seasons Restaurant and Xi’An Gourmet. 168 Seasons took over the location in July 2024 and Xi’An Gourmet/Hot Pot was in the space for approximately five years before that. The restaurant serves dim sum all day, every day, and its menu includes soups, dim sum, clay pot dishes, fried rice, noodles, seafood, roasted meats, and vegetarian options such as mochi spring rolls, sweet fried tofu, beef chow fun, honey walnut shrimp, roasted duck, and Szechuan-style string beans. Desserts include baked pineapple buns and sweet rice cake, with beverage options like Hong Kong milk tea, Thai iced tea, and fruit-based drinks.

Cuppa Tea (Rockville) opened in the space that was previously home to Tea-Do X Mochinut at 838 Rockville Pike. Cuppa Tea made its Montgomery County debut at nearby 1112 Taft Street before making the move into this space. The shop offers Hong Kong-style milk tea and is a popular brand with over 800 locations worldwide. Cuppa Tea made its U.S. debut when it opened in late 2021 in New York’s Flushing and Queens and Prince George’s County’s College Park.

Darband Kabob (Rockville) is now open at 765 Rockville Pike, Suite E, in the Ritchie Center. The new Persian restaurant takes over a space that has previously been home to Taste of Kabab, CM Chicken, and Jumbo Jumbo Cafe. The menu features a wide range of kabobs, stews, and classic Persian appetizers, with popular entrees such as Koobideh (spiced ground beef), Barg Kabob (filet mignon), and Rack of Lamb. Guests can also choose from specialty rice options like Shirin Polo and Baghali Polo, along with traditional desserts such as Baklava, Faloudeh, and Persian ice cream made with saffron and rosewater.

Dave’s Hot Chicken (Rockville) opened this month at 11564 Rockville Pike. The store is located in the Metro Pike Shopping Center and is taking over the former McDonald’s space, which relocated earlier this year to the former Arby’s building farther north on Rockville Pike. This will be Dave’s Hot Chicken’s second location in Montgomery County, following the opening of its White Oak restaurant in November 2024. The California-based chain began as a late-night food stand in Los Angeles in 2017 and has since expanded to more than 100 locations nationwide, helped along by celebrity investors including Drake and Samuel L. Jackson. The menu focuses on Nashville-style hot chicken tenders and sliders, with heat levels ranging from “Lite Mild” all the way up to the famously intense “Reaper.” Sides include crinkle-cut fries, mac and cheese, and milkshakes. Dave’s Hot Chicken opened its first DMV-area location in Washington, DC’s Columbia Heights neighborhood in March 2023 and has continued to expand rapidly throughout the region.

Dok Khao Thai Eatery (Chevy Chase) is now open at 8551 Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase Lake. Dok Khao describes itself as offering “local Thai cuisine for everyone,” with dishes made to order using high-quality ingredients, including locally made fresh noodles, home-grown Thai herbs, and rare Asian vegetables. The menu features Thai street food, noodles, small plates, salads, hearty soups, craft cocktails, homemade cakes, and an Asian-inspired dessert bar, all designed to evoke the atmosphere of a Bangkok night market. Dok Thai Thai Eatery opened its first location in Woodbridge, VA, followed by a second in the Merriweather District in Downtown Columbia.

Dolan Uyghur Cuisine (Rockville) opened at 20-A Maryland Ave in Rockville, within The Square at Rockville, in the space formerly occupied by Kung Fu Kitchen and Peter Chang Rockville. Dolan Uyghur Restaurant is known for its unique culinary tradition, offering a wide array of dishes. Patrons can look forward to specialties such as hand-pulled noodles, flavorful chicken stew, handmade dumplings, and various kebabs including lamb, rib, and whole lamb tandoor. The menu also features dry-fried chicken and stir-fried lamb, alongside extensive vegan and halal options. This new Rockville establishment is the first Maryland location for Dolan Uyghur Restaurant, which already has a strong presence with three existing locations in Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia. The restaurant aims to share and preserve Uyghur culture through its distinctive and healthy cuisine.

Duke’s Grocery (Potomac), a DC-based, East London-inspired gastropub, opened at 10128 River Road in the space previously occupied by Lock 72 Kitchen & Bar in the Potomac Village shopping center. Menu items include “Duke’s Grocery staples such as massive sarnies (sandwiches), seasonal bevvies (cocktails), hearty salads, local beers, and a robust wine list alongside crowd favourites such as the Proper Burger, white truffle mac and cheese, fish and chips, and full English breakfasts during brunch.”

Dulce Crepes (Potomac) opened at 12525 C Park Potomac, marking the Virginia based creperie’s first Maryland location nearly a decade after launching in Fairfax. The menu includes a variety of sweet and savory crepes, waffles, paninis, salads, wraps, bowls, and all day breakfast items, milkshakes, and coffee. Sweet crepe options include the Tutti Frutti featuring mixed berries and white chocolate and the Pistachio Dream with pistachio ice cream, while savory choices include the Smoked Salmon and Chicken Florentine. Waffles range from chocolate focused selections to fruit topped options, and paninis include items such as the Turkey Pesto and Prosciutto Funghi.

Dumpling District (Germantown) opened at 19775 Frederick Rd in Germantown’s Fox Chapel Shopping Center in the space that was most recently home to Bonchon. Dumpling District has seven locations across the DMV with more coming soon. The Germantown location is a full-service location and offers table service as well as takeout.

Dunkin’ (Chevy Chase, Silver Spring & Wheaton-Glenmont) opened locations at 8500 Connecticut Ave. in Chevy Chase, 12106 Georgia Ave. in Wheaton-Glenmont, and 8455 Fenton St in Silver Spring.

Eggspectation (Burtonsville), a restaurant that serves “elevated American cuisine with a lengthy all-day breakfast menu alongside hearty lunch and dinner fare” opened at 15763 Old Columbia Pike. Eggspectation left Montgomery County in September of 2020 after 15 years in Downtown Silver Spring.

Falafel Inc (North Bethesda) opened its second Montgomery County location at 11802 Rockville Pike, Suite G, in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose– taking over the space previously occupied by Kung Fu Tea and Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt. The DC-based quick-service chain offers falafel, hummus, bowls, and sides like Zaatar fries and Tabouli salad.

FingerLicking SoulFood (Wheaton), a Jamaican-style restaurant that began as a food truck in Frederick County, opened in the Westfield Wheaton Mall food court. Menu items listed on its website include Jamaican-style oxtails, blackened salmon, fried catfish, jumbo fried shrimp, pork chops, chicken wings, sandwiches, and sides such as butter beans, cornbread, mac and cheese, collard greens, green beans, and banana pudding. Founded in 2015, FingerLicking SoulFood is “known for creating soulful meals with quality ingredients to give you comfort when you are alone or with family and friends. We take pride in our ability to create delicious southern dishes that all can enjoy…”

First Street Tavern (Rockville) is now open in the former Jonathan’s Sports Pub space at 820 Baltimore Road. Owner Amy Shin Huang, who also owns Fusion Bar & Grill in the Cloverly Village Center, has maintained the “dive-bar” atmosphere while updating the menu and decor.

Five Guys (Wheaton) is now open inside of Westfield Wheaton Mall. The restaurant is located in the Costco wing, near the recently opened Oak, Barrel, and Vine liquor store. The DC-area-based burger chain, known for its hand-formed burgers and fresh-cut fries cooked in peanut oil, operates more than 1,800 locations worldwide. It already has several Montgomery County restaurants, including in Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Olney, Potomac, Rockville, and Silver Spring.

Fruit N Boba Tea (Rockville) opened at 302 King Farm Blvd. Ste. 130. in Rockville, located next to Montgomery County’s last remaining Baja Fresh. Fruit N Boba Tea specializes in making fruit tea with fresh fruit, bubble tea with imported ingredients from Taiwan, smoothies made with fresh fruit and all natural sweeteners, as well as non-dairy frozen yogurt.

Gold Bunny Donut (Bethesda) opened in November at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, taking over the former Donutchew space near the food court and next to Macy’s. The shop is operated by Kokee Tea, which launched a bubble tea kiosk on the mall’s lower level in November 2024. Gold Bunny’s menu will feature a wide selection of cream-filled and specialty donuts, including Banana Custard, Earl Grey Cream, Tiramisu Cream, and signature varieties such as Gold Bunny Biscoff, Matcha, and Dirty Chocolate Cream. Gold Bunny Donut also has an existing shop at 2131 Pleasant Hill Rd. in Duluth, Georgia.

The Golden Fig Café & Bakery (Bethesda), a new family-owned Mediterranean restaurant, opened in November at 10411 Motor City Drive in Bethesda. Founded by the Slimani family, the café highlights recipes inspired by their Algerian heritage, with everything made from scratch by Samy Slimani’s parents, his mother specializing in sweets and pastries, and his father in savory dishes. The menu features a wide range of breakfast, lunch, and dessert options, blending Mediterranean flavors with European café traditions. Breakfast offerings include items such as the Turkey Bacon Egg & Cheese sandwich and the hearty Breakfast Combo. Guests can also enjoy an assortment of baked goods like butter, chocolate, and almond croissants, blueberry muffins, and slices of the café’s signature Golden Fig Cake. Savory options include Mediterranean baked favorites such as the Chicken & Mushroom Soufflé and Salmon Quiche, alongside specialty sandwiches like the French Tacos, Lamb Merguez on Artisan Baguette, Kofta Smash Burger, and Gyro Sandwich. From the grill, platters include chicken, kofta, and lamb, served with sides and sauces, while lighter fare such as Greek and Caesar salads are also available.

Häagen-Dazs (Gaithersburg) opened a new location at 211 Market Street West in Kentlands Market Square. Häagen-Dazs also operates locations in Montgomery County at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda and at 1516 Rockville Pike.

Hey Tea (Rockville) opened 891-F Rockville Pike in Wintergreen Plaza. Hey Tea is a global tea chain founded in 2012 in Guangdong, China, by 19-year-old entrepreneur Neo Nie. It has been rapidly expanding its U.S. presence and is known as the original of cheese foam. The first U.S. location opened last summer on Broadway in New York City, followed by stores in California and the inaugural DC area location in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

House of Curry (Damascus) opened at 9805 Main Street, suite 207 in the space that was previously home to Sky Kitchen. House of Curry offers authentic Indian cuisine and its menu consists of Indo-Chinese, Tandoori, chicken, biryani, and goat & lamb sections with a wide variety of offerings including a selection of appetizers, sides, breads, and desserts.

Ice Cream Worx (Gaithersburg) is now open at 20215 Goshen Rd, located in the former New Fashion Nails space in the Goshen Oaks shopping center. In addition to ice cream, the menu features a wide variety of items, including hot dog “boats,” mac and cheese bowls, grilled cheese, Belgian waffles, crepes, chicken skewers, street foods and snacks, fresh-baked cookies, espresso, frappes, smoothies, and slushies.

Insomnia Cookies (Silver Spring) opened its first Montgomery County location at 8455 Fenton Street, Suite 5B in Downtown Silver Spring. The chain is best known for delivering warm cookies, often until 3 a.m. or later. Its menu features a rotating selection of cookies and desserts, including Chocolate Chunk, Classic with M&M’s, Double Chocolate Chunk, Oatmeal Raisin, Snickerdoodle, Peanut Butter Chip, Sugar, White Chocolate Macadamia, Deluxe S’mores, Deluxe Triple Chocolate, Deluxe Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, Deluxe Confetti, brownies, ice cream, cookie cakes, and seasonal flavors.

Irene’s Pupusas (Colesville) opened its newest restaurant in the space most previously occupied by Kat’s Kitchen and formerly home to Dominic’s Italian Grille at 12854 New Hampshire Ave. in Colesville’s Meadowood shopping center. The restaurant honors the legacy of the late Irene Cuevas, a Honduran entrepreneur who built a local empire based on her popular pupusas. In 1982, she launched one of the area’s first pupusa trucks, equipping it with a makeshift griddle and parking it near soccer games. Today’s version of Irene’s Pupusas has additional locations at 812 Russell Ave. in Gaithersburg and 12391 Georgia Ave. in Glenmont. In addition to the signature pupusas, the restaurant menus feature a blend of Salvadoran and Honduran dishes alongside other Latin favorites. The offerings include baleadas, fajitas, tamales, soups, tacos, yuca con chicharrón, and more.

ISAAC’S Poultry Market (Burtonsville) opened its second location at 15785 Old Columbia Pike in February. ISAAC’S Poultry Market opened its first location in February 2023 at 12167 Darnestown Rd in Gaithersburg and gained recognition by winning the Restaurant Association of Maryland’s “sandwich competition” for its fried chicken sandwich featuring “ISAAC’S sauce,” dill pickles, and broccoli slaw on toasted potato bread. Founded by lifelong Montgomery County resident and former CAVA Director of Operations Rob Gresham, ISAAC’S Poultry Market specializes in roasted chicken, wings, fried chicken sandwiches, salads, and frozen custard. Gresham and his 13-year-old son developed the concept while quarantining during the COVID-19 pandemic, naming the restaurant after Isaac Newton, who made groundbreaking scientific discoveries while in quarantine during the bubonic plague.

Jinlan Dumplings (Rockville) opened at 11620-A Rockville Pike, next to Tropical Smoothie Cafe in the White Flint Station shopping center. Founded by Jennifer Wenhua, Jinlan Dumplings has built a following over the years selling her Chinese dumplings at Farmers Markets across the DC region.

K BAP Express (Rockville) is now serving customers at 121B Congressional Lane, in the space that was most recently home to Pines of Rome Express. The new restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring popular Korean staples such as kimbap (seaweed rolls), bibimbap (mixed vegetable rice bowls), dumplings, and dupbap (rice bowls with a variety of protein options including bulgogi, chicken dori, donkatsu, and spicy pork bulgogi). Diners can also enjoy lighter bites like rolled omelets, porridge, and wraps during breakfast hours. For lunch, K BAP Express serves burgers with beef, fish, or salmon, and highlights traditional Korean pancakes with fillings such as kimchi, shrimp, squid, and potato. Side dishes include seaweed rice balls, tempura, kimchi, and spicy cucumber salad. The drink menu features coffee, fresh juices, and teas ranging from green and black to ginger-cinnamon and lemon. K BAP Express is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Lady Vintner (Rockville) opened in April on the lower level of the BLVD Forty Four high-rise apartment tower at 42 Maryland Ave, taking over the space previously occupied by Pour Vino N Hops. The bar offers high-end wine and beer and features an in-house sommelier.

La Mesa Del Rincón (Clarksburg) opened at 23329 Frederick Rd. in Clarksburg in the space formerly occupied by Clarksburg Grill inside the historic Clarksburg Market, which operates out of the 200-year-old Dr. Wilson House. The restaurant offers authentic Mexican cuisine, with a focus on tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and house-made aguas frescas. The restaurant has a scratch kitchen and all sauces and meat marinades are crafted in-house by a chef with over 25 years of experience in the area.

Maman Joon is (Bethesda & Gaithersburg) officially opened on Dec. 18, at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda The fast-casual Persian restaurant has taken over the space previously occupied by Brio’s Chicken, and before that, Tara Thai. Earlier this year, Maman Joon opened a Gaithersburg location at 15780 Shady Grove Road in the 270 Center on Nov. 22.

Max’s Best Ice Cream (Bethesda) opened at 7770 Woodmont Ave. Specializing in artisanal scoops, extreme milkshakes, boozy shakes, unforgettable sundaes, and innovative floats, Max’s Best Ice Cream promises to deliver a delightful experience for all ice cream enthusiasts. The shop prides itself on using premium, farm-fresh ice cream sourced from Vanderwende’s Farm Creamery in Delaware, ensuring top-notch quality in every bite. In addition to serving delectable treats, Max’s Best Ice Cream is committed to making a positive impact in the community. The shop has partnered with Best Buddies, an organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, to provide employment opportunities.

Medina Cuisine (Rockville) opened at 12205 Nebel St. The restaurant specializes in Glatt kosher items certified by the Rabbinical Council of Greater Washington (Capitol-K) and is known for its commitment to high-quality ingredients and personalized service.

Moby Dick House of Kabob (Kensington & Potomac) opened a new restaurants at 10506A Connecticut Ave. in the Kensington Shopping Center and at 11325 Seven locks Road Suite 180  in  Cabin John Village. Founder Mike Daryoush emigrated to the United States from Iran in 1975. He opened a small sandwich shop in 1987 in Bethesda, Maryland, serving a few Middle Eastern dishes. He changed to a Persian menu and added a clay oven in 1989. The name references one of the biggest kabob joints in Tehran, which was right near the American Embassy during the Shah’s time. It was called Moby Dick, apparently because the owner really liked the book. Daryoush passed away on May 9, 2019, only a week after the chain’s 30th anniversary.

Mykonos (Potomac), a Rockville staple for decades, opened a new restaurant in Cabin John Village in the space that was formerly occupied by Broadway Pizza, which closed at the end of 2021. The new location is owned by Angelo Mitsotakis and his wife, Rodi Tzani, who also own the original Mykonos Grill in Rockville and its fast-casual sister restaurant, Gyroland, which closed in November. The menu features a variety of Greek dishes, including grilled octopus, shrimp saganaki, lamb shank with orzo, and branzino. Vegetarian options include spanakopita, stuffed eggplant, and dolmades, along with salads, soups, and grilled meats like lamb chops and kebabs.

Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings (Bethesda), the Michelin-recommended restaurant known for its authentic Shanghai-style xiao long bao, opened at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda in October. Founded in Flushing, New York, in 2006, Nan Xiang has earned Michelin recommendations for nine consecutive years for its commitment to authentic Shanghai flavors. The new Bethesda location marks another milestone in the brand’s expansion, offering a full-service dining experience from 11am to 10pm daily. Nan Xiang’s signature xiao long bao (soup dumplings) come in a variety of flavors, including pork, crab meat, chicken, truffle, scallop, abalone, and vegetable, with the “Lucky Six” basket offering one of each. The menu also features a wide range of dim sum and noodle dishes, such as pan-fried pork buns, shrimp potstickers, siu mai, braised beef noodle soup, seafood stir-fried udon, and pork chop noodle soup. Chef’s specials include Shanghai-style sweet and sour spare ribs, black pepper beef, creamy shrimp, and crispy flounder fillet, alongside an all-day breakfast menu with hot and cold soybean milk, scallion pancakes, crispy dough sticks, and assorted sweet pastries like durian puffs and red bean puffs.

Nash & Smash (Colesville & Silver Spring), known for Nashville hot chicken sandwiches, fried chicken, smash burgers, and more, opened locations at 10121 Colesville Rd in the Woodmoor Shopping Center in January and at 13436 New Hampshire Ave in the Colesville Center. The menu features hand breaded chicken sandwiches and smashed burgers. Chicken offerings include the Original Nashville, made with Nashville chicken, pickles, house sauce, and slaw, and the Honey Butter Buzz, which combines honey butter, American cheese, and signature sauce. Burger options range from classics like the Classic Bull, topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and smashed sauce, to specialty builds such as the Mushroom Meltdown with sautéed mushrooms, crispy onion strings, and American cheese. A Meatless Pea Protein burger is also available.

Neighbors Coffee (Rockville), a new café founded by local couple Spencer and Lulu Trach, opened its doors at 1101 Nelson Street, taking over the former Essex Bank location in Woodley Gardens. For Spencer and Lulu, this venture is a homecoming. They’ve known each other since their days at Ridgeview Middle School in Gaithersburg and are both graduates of Quince Orchard High School. Their journey into the coffee world began a few years ago with a stand at the Kentlands farmers market, a passion project that has now evolved into a full-fledged coffee shop. Spencer, who grew up in the Woodley Gardens neighborhood, is now joined full-time by his brother in this family endeavor. Neighbors Coffee offers more than just a great cup of joe. In addition to being able to stop in for a coffee (indoor and outdoor seating), the shop features a convenient walk-up window, perfect for grabbing a quick coffee on the go. On weekends, they plan to highlight the talents of local bakers by serving their treats. Looking ahead, Neighbors hopes to expand its menu with homemade breakfast sandwiches.

Nothing Bundt Cakes (Rockville) opened at 1032 Rockville Pike in the space that was the longtime home of Sun’s Carpet and Floors at the Edmonton Crossing shopping center. Nothing Bundt Cakes got its start in Las Vegas in 1997 and currently has over 600 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, including Montgomery County locations in Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Germantown, and Silver Spring.

Olney Ale House (Olney) reopened its doors following a full rebuild and renovation after the devastating 2019 fire that shuttered the beloved restaurant. A “first look” video is available below by Taste MoCo. Owner Selim Kantar, who purchased the property in 2023, says the process took roughly two and a half years of construction to bring the space back to life. “The Olney Ale House has been around in some form since 1924, it’s been through a few owners in that time,” the new restaurant website shares. “The building had a major fire in 2019 that closed it down and it sat vacant until I bought it in 2023 and started to do a major rebuild. We are now opening after 2.5 years of construction ready to serve the community again. We specialize in classic American fare like burgers, pizza, steaks, oysters.” The newly rebuilt restaurant blends historic charm with a warm, modern atmosphere. “Our newly rebuilt space blends the charm of our 1924 roots with a fresh, inviting atmosphere,” Selim said. On the menu, diners will find a mix of hearty Maryland classics and updated pub favorites.

Palacio De Perú (Montgomery Village) opened its first Montgomery County restaurant at 19222 Montgomery Village Avenue, taking over the former Moe’s Southwest Grill space, which closed at the end of August 2024. The restaurant specializes in traditional Peruvian cuisine, featuring dishes such as Lomo Saltado (stir-fried beef with onions and tomatoes served with rice and fries), Bistec a lo Pobre (steak with eggs, rice, fries, and plantains), Aji de Gallina (shredded chicken in a creamy pepper sauce), and Ceviche. Palacio De Perú is also known for its flavorful rotisserie chicken, available in quarter, half, or whole portions with sides like fried yucca, rice, beans, or plantains.

Paris Baguette (Bethesda) opened its newest Montgomery County location at 4924 St. Elmo Avenue in the Sophia Bethesda Apartments. The South Korean bakery café chain offers fresh pastries, cakes, breads, sandwiches, and handcrafted coffee and tea beverages. The brand opened its first Montgomery County location in Rockville Town Square in summer 2023, followed by a second location in Germantown’s Milestone Center at 21030 Frederick Road in late 2024. Franchise agreements are in place to expand across 25 states, with approximately 200 locations currently operating in the United States.

Pelicana Chicken (Rockville) opened at 4 N Washington Street in Rockville. The restaurant is located in the space previously occupied by Woodside Deli, which closed in the summer of 2022 after 12 years at Rockville’s Courthouse Center. This is the first Maryland location for Pelicana Chicken, which has nearby locations in Annandale and Sterling, VA. According to the restaurant, “Pelicana Chicken was established in 1982 in Daejeon, South Korea. Since its inception, Pelicana has expanded to over 3000 stores and continues to grow aggressively abroad. Pelicana Chicken’s success is attributed to its variety of delicious sauces, chicken selections, and fresh ingredients.” Menu items include Korean fried chicken (wings, boneless, and whole), kimchi pancakes, stir-fried chicken gizzards, and fried rice.

Peruvian Charcoal Chicken & Grill (Gaithersburg) opened at 261 Kentlands Blvd, taking over the former TaKorean space, which closed in July 2024. The menu features charbroiled chicken, burritos, tacos, cheesesteaks, wings, and smash burgers, along with Peruvian specialties like lomo saltado, carne asada, and ceviche. Peruvian Charcoal Chicken & Grill has additional locations in Clinton, MD and Richmond, VA.

Petit Délice (Rockville) is now open at 90 West Montgomery Avenue, taking over the former site of Savvy Treats. The menu highlights French classics such as croissants, Viennoiseries, quiches, sandwiches, éclairs, macarons, chocolates, and dates. Coffee selections include cappuccino, latte, and americano. “At Petit Délice, we celebrate the French art of living well. Nestled in the heart of Rockville, our croissanterie and pâtisserie bring together timeless tradition and modern sophistication. From buttery viennoiseries to gourmet sandwiches, each creation is crafted daily with premium ingredients and the refined techniques of classic French baking,” the owners said in a statement.

Pisco y Nazca Ceviche Gastrobar (Bethesda) opened at 7401 Woodmont Ave. in mid-March, expanding its presence in the DMV. The restaurant features modern Peruvian cuisine, ceviches, craft cocktails, and a “social dining atmosphere.” Pisco y Nazca Ceviche has nearby locations in Reston, VA, and Northwest, DC.

Phowheels (Burtonsville), the DMV’s first drive-thru Vietnamese restaurant, opened at 15707 Old Columbia Pike in the Burtonsville Crossing in April. Phowheels opened its first brick-and-mortar location in October 2023 in Arlington, VA.

Picanteria El Picaron (Wheaton) opened at 2417 University Blvd West in the space previously occupied by Wong Gee, which closed in January. The menu offers a selection of Peruvian cuisine, including appetizers, ceviches, fish and seafood, pork rinds, soups, beef, chicken, sides, drinks, and desserts. Specialties include Cuy a la Caja China, Sopa de Mote with corn, beef tripe, and cow feet, Caldo de Gallina with noodles and boiled eggs, the Parrilla Especial El Picaron.

Piccoli Piatti (Bethesda) opened this summer at Westbard Square (5306 Zenith Overlook). Piccoli Piatti is a popular Italian restaurant that opened its first location at 19257 Old Georgetown Rd in Bethesda’s Wildwood Shopping Center. The restaurant is known for its authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas and a diverse menu of other Italian dishes. The name “Piccoli Piatti” itself means “small plates” in Italian, and while pizza is a major draw, the restaurant also offers a selection of appetizers, salads, pastas, and sandwiches.

Playa Bowls (Burtonsville) opened at 15701 Old Columbia Pike Unit 180. Playa Bowls was founded by surfers Abby Taylor & Rob Giuliani, and “born out of the desire to recreate the delicious, refreshing, healthy versions of acai and pitaya bowls the pair encountered on various surf trips to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, California, and Hawaii.” They offer Açaí Bowls, Pitaya, Coconut Bowls, smoothies, and more. The company has opened multiple locations in the DC Metro area in recent years. In Montgomery County, they have opened in Potomac, MD (Cabin John Village), Kensington (Knowles Station), Olney (Fair Hill), Gaithersburg (known as Playa Bowls Darnestown), and in Chevy Chase

Pollo Campero (Wheaton) opened in the Wheaton Mall food court in the space previously occupied by Moe’s Southwest Grill. The fast-casual chain’s menu features a mix of Latin-inspired favorites, including fried and grilled chicken, empanadas, yuca fries, sweet plantains, and flan. The fried chicken chain, which originated in Guatemala, opened its first location in 1971 and has grown to over 400 locations worldwide, including over 70 in the United States. Pollo Campero also operates locations in Bethesda (Montgomery Mall), Gaithersburg, Takoma Park, and elsewhere in Wheaton.

Pollo Pinulito (Wheaton), a Guatemalan fried chicken restaurant, drew hundreds of customers when it opened this fall at 2322 University Blvd W. The restaurant chain known for its crispy, seasoned fried chicken and Latin American–inspired sides. The brand, which originated in Guatemala City, has earned a loyal following for its signature spice blend and freshly prepared meals. In addition to its popular fried chicken, the menu features items such as chicken sandwiches, nuggets, and fries.

Popeyes (Wheaton) reopened at the Westfield Wheaton Mall food court under new ownership after closing in April 2024.

Pure Green (Bethesda) opened at 7906 Wisconsin Ave. Founded in 2014, Pure Green is a rapidly growing cold-pressed juice and smoothie company focused on “connecting people with nutrient-rich superfoods through delicious, performance-driven products.” The brand operates retail stores nationwide, along with franchise and wholesale divisions, and emphasizes community engagement, sustainability, and guest education. The menu features Superfood Smoothies, Cold Pressed Juice, Açaí Bowls, Oatmeal Bowls, Cold Pressed Shots, Cleanses, and a Toast Menu.

Roaming Rooster (Silver Spring) opened its third Montgomery County location at 8537 Georgia Ave in Downtown Silver Spring. The restaurant has additional MoCo locations in Pike & Rose and Gaithersburg. Roaming Rooster is known for its variety of buttermilk fried chicken sandwiches that vary in heat depending on the diner’s preferences – mild, medium or hot. In addition to its free-range, grain-fed, antibiotic-free and Halal chicken, Roaming Rooster offers an all week breakfast menu, salads and sides including wings, chicken tenders and hand-cut fries.

Royal Durbar (Rockville) opened at 1319 Rockville Pike in the Woodmont Station shopping center. The space was previously occupied by Saffron Indian Cuisine. The restaurant offers authentic Nepali cuisine.

San Alejo (Takoma Park), the beloved Salvadoran restaurant celebrated for its authentic homestyle pupusas and deep-rooted community involvement opened a new location at 7643 New Hampshire Avenue in Takoma Park, taking over the space previously occupied by No. 1 China in the Takoma Langley Crossroads shopping center. San Alejo opened its first restaurant in Hyattsville, at 1819 East-West Hwy, nearly a decade ago. The restaurant proudly states its mission: “A Salvadoran family that seeks to recreate homemade food from the fields of our country: our ancestral cuisine that is passed down from generation to generation.” They emphasize the use of “unique spices and ingredients to create authentic, high-quality food,” with many essential items like morro, loroco, cashew, silk beans, and dairy products imported directly from El Salvador to ensure an unparalleled taste experience.

Sardi’s Pollo A La Brasa (Rockville), the beloved fast-casual restaurant known for its Peruvian-style rotisserie chicken, opened its newest location at 5290 Randolph Road in Loehmann’s Plaza, taking over a familiar space that previously housed Toosso Pakistani Kitchen and, before that, Boston Market. Founded in 2008 by Montgomery County cousins Phil E. Sardelis and Phil G. Sardelis, Sardi’s has grown from a single Beltsville restaurant to a regional favorite with locations throughout Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. The brand already operates Montgomery County locations in Gaithersburg, Olney, and Takoma Park, making Rockville its fourth in the county. Sardi’s built its reputation on pollo a la brasa, the blackened rotisserie chicken that has roots in Lima dating back to the 1950s. To achieve a level of authenticity that matched the dish’s heritage, the founders traveled to Peru to recruit chefs trained in traditional preparation techniques. The menu expanded from there, featuring fresh ingredients, classic Peruvian sides, and the signature sauces that have become a hallmark of the restaurant’s identity.

Santa Elena Pupuseria & Antojitos (Germantown) opened at 19201 Frederick Rd. The menu features a wide variety of Salvadoran and Latin-inspired dishes, including pupusas, soups, tamales, antojitos (snacks), and entrée’s like carne asada, churrasco, and fajitas. The restaurant takes over the space that was most recently home to Margaritas Bar & Grill and, before that, the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3509 and Captain Mori’s Seafood House. Santa Elena has an additional location at 12210 Viers Mill Rd.

Selam Garden Grill & Bar (Silver Spring) at 944 Wayne Avenue in the space previously occupied by Gharb E Kabob. Owned by Eden and Mentamer, the team behind Effoi Restaurant at 8233 Fenton Street, Selam Garden Grill & Bar offers authentic Ethiopian and international flavors in a “warm, welcoming atmosphere.”

Shibuya Eatery (Chevy Chase), the popular Japanese concept from chef Darren Lee Norris, opened at 4461 Willard Avenue. Unlike its earlier fine-dining incarnation in Adams Morgan, which closed permanently in April 2024, the new Chevy Chase spot takes a fast-casual approach, offering scratch-made ramen, bento boxes, curry katsu, and other Japanese comfort foods at more affordable prices.

Silver and Sons BBQ (Bethesda) opened at 5362 Westbard Ave in Bethesda at the beginning of this year. Silver’s take on barbecue is heavily influenced by his Jewish upbringing and professional training in the kitchens of local Mediterranean restaurants. In addition to being stationed at Captains Market, Silver and Sons BBQ is also available through pre-orders, neighborhood deliveries, and private catering.

Silver Spring Sichuan Bistro (Silver Spring) opened at 3830 International Drive in Leisure World Plaza, taking over the former site of Vegetable Garden. The restaurant joins sister locations Tea Horse at 8450 Baltimore National Pike in Ellicot City, Orient Express at 3111 St. Paul Street in Baltimore, and Red Pepper Sichuan Bistro at 11 Allegheny Avenue in Towson. According to the restaurant, the brand traces its roots back twenty years, when Madame Wu and her family opened Orient Express in Baltimore’s Charles Village community. The restaurant grew a loyal following for its affordable and authentic Sichuan cuisine. In 2019, Wu expanded into Towson with Red Pepper Sichuan Bistro, which quickly became a dining landmark, followed by the opening of Tea Horse Sichuan Bistro in Ellicott City in 2023. The Silver Spring location will mark the group’s fourth restaurant, led by Madame Ping Wu and Master Chef Zhang. Tea Horse says the new bistro will bring authentic Sichuan cuisine prepared in the classic Chengdu style to Montgomery County.

Simona Café (Bethesda) opened at 4520 East-West Highway, taking over the former Starbucks location at the Bethesda Office Center. The café also operates locations in Arlington, VA and NoMa, DC. Its menu features a variety of coffee and espresso drinks, including drip coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, and seasonal specials, as well as non-coffee options like matcha, chai, and hot chocolate. Breakfast includes focaccia sandwiches with eggs, cheese, avocado, and guanciale, while lunch offerings include grilled cheese, avocado toast, smoked salmon with ricotta, and prosciutto baguette sandwiches. Add-ons such as chorizo, brie, and caramelized onions are available, along with milk alternatives and housemade syrups.

Sixty Vines (Gaithersburg), the restaurant known for its wine-on-tap program and vineyard-inspired cuisine, opened its first Maryland location at 212 Ellington Blvd in Downtown Crown, in the former site of Pour Hous. The Texas-based concept has built its reputation around a one-of-a-kind approach to wine service. With more than 60 wines available on tap, guests are invited to sample, share, and discover new favorites in a relaxed, social atmosphere. The tap system keeps each wine fresh while also reducing packaging waste, offering both a better taste and a more sustainable experience. Representatives from Sixty Vines said it was like “bringing wine country to Gaithersburg.” The menu features “vineyard-inspired cuisine” designed to pair perfectly with wine. Diners can expect seasonal plates, pizzas, pastas, shareable boards, and entrees crafted with fresh ingredients, served in a setting that evokes the energy of a vineyard tasting room. Large communal tables and an airy, open design further emphasize the brand’s focus on shared experiences.

Smoothie King (Germantown) opened at 20630 Seneca Meadows Parkway at the Shops at Seneca Meadows development (where Wegmans is located). Smoothie King has additional Montgomery County locations in Bethesda, Olney, and Rockville.

Song Dog Farm Distillery (Boyds) opened in October in the heart of the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve. Located on a 29-acre property at 18100 Bucklodge Road in Boyds, the farm distillery features on-site production of bourbon, rye, gin, vodka, liqueurs, and ready-to-pour cocktails. The venue also includes a tasting room, cocktail bar, and host year-round events celebrating local agriculture and craft spirits. Song Dog Farm Distillery brings grain-to-glass spirits to Montgomery County, using grains grown both on its own farm and by nearby farmers. The new distillery’s products are already earning attention, Song Dog Bourbon recently won a Silver Medal at the 2025 Heartland Whiskey Competition from the American Craft Spirits Association. The distillery’s cocktail program, led by Danny Childs, author of Slow Drinks, will feature cocktails designed around locally sourced ingredients and seasonal flavors, along with low- and no-alcohol options. Guests will be able to enjoy locally made food including charcuterie, sandwiches, dips, and selections from rotating food trucks.

Subway (Bethesda) opened in the Westfield Montgomery Mall food terrace, taking over the former J. Chow’s space, which closed in December 2023.

Sweeteria (Bethesda), the popular Silver Spring dessert café, has opened its new location at 7525 Old Georgetown Road. The café moves into a space previously occupied by St. Arnold’s Mussel Bar, Tyber Bierhaus, and Thimian Thai. Sweeteria is operated by Ditlada Wichaidit and Soranan Karikarn, the husband-and-wife team who also own Kao Thai Restaurant on Colesville Road. The pair opened the original Sweeteria next door to Kao Thai in October 2020.

Takumi Japanese Bistro and Bar (Bethesda) opened at 4929 Bethesda Avenue. The restaurant occupies a space with a rich history of Asian-inspired dining, previously home to Wang Dynasty and, for 15 years before that, the beloved Shanghai Village. Menu highlights include Wagyu Nigiri, Omakase Nigiri Sets, specialty rolls like the Dragon and Bumblebee, and entrées such as Chicken Katsu, Miso Black Cod, and Japanese Wagyu Fried Rice, with desserts like mochi ice cream and mango crepe cake.

Tatte Bakery & Café (Rockville) opened its third Montgomery County location at 12232 Rockville Pike. Tatte first debuted in the area in March 2021 with a location at 7276 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda, followed by a second opening at 5400 Westbard Avenue in Bethesda in November. Tatte is expected to open a Gaithersburg location in the former Buca di Beppo space in Kentlands. The bakery and café offer a variety of fresh salads, hearty sandwiches, savory shakshuka, and seasonal dishes, complemented by a curated selection of craft coffee, tea, and sodas. Tatte has grown from a small Boston farmers market stand to a popular brand with over 40 locations across the DC Metro and Greater Boston areas.

Terra Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse (Rockville) will open on Sunday, December 28, after previously announcing an opening date of December 19. The Brazilian steakhouse will be located at 1651 Chapman Ave in Rockville’s Twinbrook Quarter development and will mark Terra Gaucha’s first Maryland location and its debut in the DC region. Known for its traditional Southern Brazilian churrasco, Terra Gaucha features gaucho chefs who roast and carve wood-fired cuts such as picanha and ribeye tableside in a rodízio-style dining experience, along with a Gourmet Hot & Cold Table offering salads, cheeses, charcuterie, Brazilian sides, and desserts including its signature Papaya Cream.

Thai Express (Bethesda) opened at Westfield Montgomery Mall in the dining terrace, taking over the space previously occupied by Ruby Thai Kitchen. Menu items include combination platters, noodle soup, spring/egg rolls, cheese wontons, and fried dumplings.

Tortas Hula Hula (Rockville), a “Salvadoran Urban Street Food Restaurant”, opened at 4007 Norbeck Rd. The menu consists of a variety of Tortas– a “torta” is a type of sandwich, typically made with a soft roll and filled with various meats, cheeses, and toppings like avocado, lettuce, and salsa. Tortas Hula Hula also offers pupusas, elotes locos, papas, and much more.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe (Gaithersburg) opened at the North Pointe at Flower Hill shopping center, a new 16,000 SF retail and restaurant center located at 18251 Flower Hill Way in Gaithersburg. Tropical Smoothie Cafe offers fresh made smoothies, flatbreads, wraps, quesadillas, sandwiches, and bowls. The chain has additional Montgomery County locations in Aspen Hill , Bethesda, Burtonsville, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Rockville, and White Oak.

Uncle Marcos’ Express (Gaithersburg) opened in the space previously occupied by Boca Botanas, which closed in February 2024 at 239 Muddy Branch Rd in the Festival at Muddy Branch shopping center in Gaithersburg. The menu features a range of Peruvian and Latin American dishes including appetizers like ceviche de corvina, papa a la huancaína, and anticucho de corazón. Entrées include options such as ají de gallina, seco de carne, and asado de carne, along with seafood plates like arroz con mariscos and jalea mixta. The restaurant also offers chicken dishes such as arroz con pollo and pollo al horno, a selection of sandwiches including chicharrón and lomito, and soups like the Paraguayan bori bori.

Yuxaflame (Rockville) opened at1488 Rockville Pike A (outside of Hulu Skewers), serving up a short but flavorful menu of just three dishes. The offerings include:
Lula Lavash – a ground beef and lamb mixture wrapped in lavash bread, topped with onions, tomato, cilantro, and sumac ($9.99)
Uyghur Kebab – seasoned lamb kebab served on top of bread, finished with onions, tomato, cilantro, sumac, and a touch of spice ($9.99)
Chicken Lavash – chicken wrapped in soft lavash bread with onions, tomato, cilantro, sumac, and a touch of spice ($7.99)
Each item is prepared with bold seasonings and fresh toppings. Diners who have tried the menu say the chicken with yogurt stands out as one of the best non-breaded chicken dishes around, while the Uyghur lamb kebab has earned high praise as a must-try. For owner Subi Pulat, Yuxaflame is more than just a restaurant, it’s the realization of a deeply personal dream. “My name is Subi Pulat. After living in the U.S. for 13 years, I kept searching for the flavors of home,  especially the kebab my father made. Starting Yuxa was my way of bringing those memories back and sharing them with others. I found the courage to start from zero and create Yuxa. My dream is to make Yuxa a place where anyone can experience authentic, halal food made with clean ingredients and homemade sauces… a taste of home no matter where you’re from,” he said. The restaurant offers outdoor patio seating, strung with hanging lights that create a relaxed, casual dining atmosphere. For a limited time, Yuxaflame is also offering special soft-opening pricing, though the end date has not yet been announced.
