$50K Powerball Tickets Sold in Montgomery County on Christmas Eve

Montgomery County lottery players had plenty to celebrate after Wednesday’s Christmas Eve Powerball drawing, which ended a record-breaking jackpot run and produced tens of thousands of winning tickets across Maryland.

In Montgomery County, two of the state’s biggest wins from the drawing were sold locally. A $50,000 winning ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven located at 20510 Frederick Road in Germantown, while another $50,000 ticket was sold at the Safeway at 11201 Georgia Avenue in Wheaton. Both tickets matched four white balls and the Powerball, earning the second-tier prize.

Overall, more than 136,000 winning Powerball tickets were sold across Maryland in the Christmas Eve drawing, with prizes ranging from $4 to $100,000, according to the Maryland Lottery.

The drawing also marked the end of a Powerball jackpot run that lasted more than three months. A ticket sold in Arkansas won the second-largest jackpot in the game’s history, with the final prize reaching $1.817 billion as an annuity, or $834.9 million as a cash option.

Montgomery County players were also well-represented throughout the entire jackpot run, which spanned from September 7 through December 24. During that stretch, Maryland players won $11.3 million in Powerball prizes, including 29 tickets worth $50,000 or more. Several of those high-value tickets were sold in Montgomery County, including winners in Germantown, Wheaton, and Silver Spring.
