A strong front moving through the region on Monday is expected to bring powerful winds to much of the Mid Atlantic, prompting the National Weather Service to issue High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories across the area, including Montgomery County and surrounding jurisdictions.
A Wind Advisory will be in effect from 9 a.m. Monday through 1am Tuesday. Forecasts call for sustained west winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph at times. The advisory covers portions of Washington DC, as well as central, north central, northeast, northern, and southern Maryland, along with central, northern, and northwest Virginia.
These gusty conditions could blow around unsecured outdoor objects, knock down tree limbs, and lead to isolated power outages. Residents are encouraged to secure items such as trash cans, holiday decorations, and patio furniture ahead of the strongest winds.
The National Weather Service also warns that driving may become difficult, particularly for high profile vehicles like trucks, vans, and SUVs. Motorists should use extra caution, especially on open roadways and bridges where wind gusts can be stronger.
Winds are expected to gradually diminish overnight into early Tuesday as the cold front clears the area.
