Portion of Route 355 Remains Closed Sunday For Road Repairs Following Water Main Break

Route 355 remains closed in Gaithersburg as crews continue roadway repairs following a major water main break, according to an update from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services on Sunday morning.

MCFRS Public Information Officer Pete Piringer said at 10:01 a.m. Sunday that North Frederick Road (Route 355) is fully closed between Game Preserve Road and High Point Drive, with all lanes blocked. The closure is tied to ongoing roadway repairs after WSSC crews fixed a broken water main in the area.

The update comes a day after WSSC confirmed that repairs to the 24-inch water main were completed and water service was fully restored to impacted customers. The break, which was reported around 8:13 a.m. Friday, undermined the roadway and forced Route 355 to be shut down in both directions.

While the water main itself has been fixed, WSSC and roadway crews are now focused on repairing the damaged road surface. As of Sunday morning, the section of Route 355 between Game Preserve Road and High Point Drive remains impassable.

Drivers are advised to continue avoiding the area and to seek alternate routes while repairs are underway. No estimate has been provided for when the roadway will reopen.
