NBC4’s Doug Kammerer Says January Could Bring Multiple Snow Chances to the DC Area

NBC4 Chief Meteorologist Doug Kammerer is signaling that winter weather lovers may have plenty to watch as January gets underway, with a sustained cold pattern and multiple opportunities for snow across Maryland and the rest of the DC area.

In a post shared Monday, Kammerer said the region is entering a stretch that favors colder temperatures and the possibility of snowfall. “If you like COLD and SNOW, then this is a pattern you like to see,” he wrote, adding that cold air is expected to remain in place for at least the next two weeks. While some of the early chances appear minor, Kammerer noted that New Year’s Day could bring a few snow showers to the DC area.

Looking a bit further ahead, Kammerer pointed to a more notable system late next week that bears watching. He emphasized that confidence remains low at this stage, but the setup is intriguing. “Late next week though has the potential for a significant snowstorm. The key word here is potential,” he said. “We have a lot of the ingredients for a storm, but we can’t say yet, what will come out of the oven.” He ended the post by asking followers what they would be hoping to see from the possible system.

A day earlier, on Sunday, Kammerer hinted at a busy start to the new year from a broader perspective. “Looks to be an interesting first two weeks of January my friends,” he wrote. “There will be multiple storms that could bring snow, now we just need em to come together for us snow lovers.”

As always, forecasts at this range are subject to change, but Kammerer’s comments suggest that winter may finally be ready to make a more sustained appearance in the region. Residents will want to keep a close eye on updates over the coming days as details on timing, track, and potential impacts become clearer.
