Quince Orchard High School alumnus Jaylen Harvey is transferring from Penn State to North Carolina, where he will play under legendary head coach Bill Belichick. Harvey will have three years of eligibility remaining after redshirting his freshman season, as reported by on3.com.
The 6-foot-2, 251-pound defensive end appeared in eleven games for Penn State last season, finishing with nine total tackles and one sack. He now joins a North Carolina program coming off a 4–8 season and looking to retool its defense under Belichick’s leadership.
Harvey was one of the most dominant high school defenders in Maryland during his time at Quince Orchard, playing for longtime head coach John Kelley. He served as a team captain as a senior and was part of an unprecedented run of success for the Cougars, who won 39 straight games during his tenure.
In 2023, Harvey helped guide Quince Orchard to an 11–1 record. He was also a key contributor on back-to-back undefeated state championship teams, as the Cougars went 14–0 during both his sophomore and junior seasons. Individually, Harvey earned first-team all-state honors in Class 4A and was invited to play in the Pennsylvania vs. Maryland All-Star Game.
His production matched the accolades. As a senior, Harvey recorded 13 sacks, nine tackles for loss, and three touchdowns. He added 12 sacks and eight tackles for loss as a junior, and nine sacks with 13 tackles for loss as a sophomore.
Harvey entered college as a highly regarded recruit, rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN and Rivals and a three-star prospect by 247Sports and On3. Rivals ranked him as the No. 21 strongside defensive end in the country and the No. 11 prospect in Maryland. ESPN listed him as the No. 24 outside linebacker nationally and the No. 12 player in the state, while On3 and 247Sports each placed him among Maryland’s top 15 prospects.
