The Takoma Park Police Department announced on Wednesday night the arrest of a Washington DC man in connection with recent overnight burglary activity in the city.
According to Takoma Park Police Chief Antonio DeVaul, Kahyah Mandella Winslow, 36, was arrested and charged with possession of a dangerous concealed weapon, possession of burglary tools, and warrant service.
The arrest occurred around 3:00am on January 5, while officers were conducting a proactive patrol near Cedar Avenue and Tulip Avenue. Police said the patrol was initiated in response to an increase in overnight burglaries in the area.
During the patrol, an officer observed Winslow walking in the middle of Tulip Avenue. Police confirmed that Winslow had outstanding warrants with both the Takoma Park Police Department and the Montgomery County Police Department and was already a suspect in several local burglaries.
Investigators said Winslow was wearing the same clothing and pushing the same cart that had been reported in a prior burglary and a prior attempted burglary, both of which occurred on Cedar Avenue.
A search conducted incident to the arrest yielded items described by police as being of evidentiary value. Winslow was taken into custody, charged, and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
