MCPS to Hold Community Meeting on Third Quarter “Refrigerator Curriculum”

Montgomery County Public Schools will host a community meeting next week for parents and guardians to preview instructional materials for the third quarter.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Summit Hall Elementary School, located at 101 W. Deer Park Road in Gaithersburg. MCPS staff will review instructional materials for both elementary and secondary curricula and answer questions from families. A second instructional materials preview event is scheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18 at Ritchie Park Elementary School.

The meetings are tied to MCPS’ “Refrigerator Curriculum,” a one page, family friendly overview of what students will study each marking period. According to MCPS, the Refrigerator Curriculum is designed to give parents and guardians a clear snapshot of key themes and texts their children will encounter, while helping families stay engaged and informed about classroom instruction.

MCPS says the guides also reflect the school system’s focus on partnering with families, celebrating the county’s diverse community, and respecting individual beliefs. Parents and guardians can use the resource to anticipate upcoming lessons and, if needed, request alternative assignments when instructional materials conflict with sincerely held religious views.

The third quarter Refrigerator Curriculum is available for families to review ahead of the meeting.
