Free Parking, Holiday Transit Schedules Set for MLK Day in Montgomery County

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation announced that for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 19, county offices will be closed, transit services will operate on holiday or weekend schedules, select commuter services will have modified hours, and parking at public garages and meters in Bethesda, Silver Spring, and Wheaton will be free.

Per MCDOT: “Below are the transportation-related holiday schedules for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 19.

  • County offices – Will be closed.
  • Ride OnextRa 101extRa LimeextRa Pink, and Flex bus services – Will operate on a Holiday schedule.
  • Ride On Flash bus service – The Orange line will operate on a Weekend/Holiday schedule. The Blue line (typically, weekday rush hours only) will not be in service.
  • TRiPS Commuter Store at Silver Spring Transit Center – Will be open 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.
  • TRiPS Mobile Commuter Store – Will be closed.
  • Parking at Bethesda, Silver Spring and Wheaton public garages, lots and curbside meters – Will be free.
  • Metrorail – Will operate on a Weekend schedule from 5 a.m. to midnight. View timetables here.
