A new Haitian restaurant and bar, Chez Aviole, is now open at 7912 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, in the space previously occupied by Port-au-Prince Haitian Cuisine.
According to the restaurant, Chez Aviole was created to honor the owner’s mother and grandmother, whose legacy of service, hospitality, and gathering inspired the concept. The restaurant is intended as a lasting tribute that recognizes and celebrates the often unseen contributions of Black women by creating a space where their work and spirit continue to be visible in the community.
The menu features Haitian-inspired dishes with appetizers like accra fritters, fried plantains, patties, wings, and fritay, along with entrées such as griot, oxtail, tassot goat or beef, chicken, turkey, and boulet, typically served with rice, plantains, or vegetables. Sides include black rice, white rice, rice and beans, and macaroni and cheese, with beverages like lemonade, passion fruit drinks, and sodas, plus simple desserts such as cake and coffee.
