Grocery Outlet to Open First Virginia Location, Eyes Potential Bethesda Location

Grocery Outlet, a fast growing discount grocery chain known for deeply discounted name brand products, is expanding further in the DMV with its first Virginia store and appears to have Montgomery County, MD in its sights.

In a press release issued this week, Grocery Outlet Holding Corp. announced it will open a new store in Falls Church, Virginia on Feb. 12, 2026. The location will mark the company’s first store in Virginia and the beginning of what it says will be a series of openings across the state.

The California based retailer describes itself as an “extreme value” grocery chain, offering prices typically 40 percent to 70 percent lower than conventional supermarkets. The stores operate with a rotating, treasure hunt style inventory that includes name brand groceries, fresh products, and a strong wine selection.

“Extreme Value is coming to Virginia,” said Jason Potter, Chief Executive Officer of Grocery Outlet. “We are thrilled to open our first Grocery Outlet store in Falls Church and give shoppers the best of both worlds: unbeatable treasure hunt deals on unique finds and significant savings on everyday grocery essentials.”

While the Falls Church store is Grocery Outlet’s first in Virginia, the company is already familiar to Maryland shoppers. Grocery Outlet currently operates locations elsewhere in the state, giving the brand an established footprint in the region. That footprint may soon grow into Montgomery County.

Grocery Outlet is currently advertising a hiring post for an “independent operator store manager” tied to a Bethesda, Maryland location. While no official announcement has been made about a Montgomery County store, the job posting suggests the company is actively exploring entry into the local market.

With more than 560 stores nationwide, Grocery Outlet says it continues to evaluate expansion opportunities, particularly in communities where affordable grocery options are limited. If a Bethesda location moves forward, it would add another major discount grocery player to Montgomery County’s competitive food retail landscape. As of now, no opening date or specific site in Bethesda has been announced.
