Starting Feb. 9, the City of Frederick will begin phasing out all physical on-street parking meters in downtown Frederick as part of a broader effort to modernize the city’s parking system. The news was recently shared by City of Frederick Government.
Under the new system, all on-street parking payments downtown will be handled exclusively through ParkMobile, a digital parking platform accessible by mobile phone. ParkMobile allows users to pay using four different payment methods through their device, offering added flexibility and convenience for residents, employees, and visitors. City officials are encouraging drivers to download the ParkMobile app ahead of the transition.
To support the change, new ParkMobile signage will be installed throughout downtown Frederick. The signs will clearly display parking zone numbers and step-by-step payment instructions. Additional details and updates will be available on the City of Frederick website.
The removal of physical parking meters will begin on downtown side streets, with Market Street and Patrick Street scheduled to be completed last in order to reduce disruption in the city’s busiest areas.
For those who prefer to pay with cash, that option will remain available in all five City-owned parking garages, which will continue to accept both cash and credit card payments.
As part of the update, on-street parking enforcement hours will also change. Enforcement will now run from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., extending one hour later than the current schedule. Updated enforcement times will be reflected on parking signage throughout downtown.
“This transition to ParkMobile marks a significant step forward in modernizing downtown Frederick’s parking experience,” Mayor Michael O’Connor said in a statement. “By moving to a fully digital system, we’re embracing innovation that makes parking simpler, faster, and more convenient for everyone. At the same time, we remain committed to accessibility by continuing to offer cash payment options in our garages.”
