A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for much of the region as snow is expected to impact travel throughout the day Sunday.
The National Weather Service has issued the advisory from 4am to 6pm Sunday for the District of Columbia, central and northern Maryland, and parts of northern Virginia. Forecasts call for widespread snowfall totals of 1 to 3 inches.
Snow is expected to spread into the area early Sunday morning, with some periods possibly mixing with rain for a few hours before changing back to snow. While there may be brief breaks in precipitation around midday, additional snow is expected during the afternoon before tapering off late in the day or early evening.
Visibility could drop to as low as one half mile at times during moderate snowfall, and temperatures near or just above freezing may lead to slippery road conditions, especially on untreated surfaces. Officials are urging drivers to slow down and use caution while traveling. Up-to-date road conditions can be found by calling 511.
The advisory covers the District of Columbia, Carroll County, Baltimore County, Prince George’s County, Anne Arundel County, Montgomery County, Howard County, Fairfax County, Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church, Loudoun County, and Prince William County.
