Maryland MVA Joins 2016 Throwback Trend by Highlighting a Decade of Progress

As social media fills with throwback photos from 2016 as part of a January trend marking ten years since that year, the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) used the moment to highlight how much its operations have changed over the past decade.

In a post responding to the trend, the agency acknowledged comparisons to 2016 and framed them as an opportunity to showcase progress. The MVA showed an 2016 photo of (likely frustrated) people lined up along with a current photo of just one person at a desk and said that today more than 60 transactions can be completed online through myMVA, reducing the need for in person visits for many routine services.

For customers who do need to visit a branch, the agency pointed to dramatically improved efficiency. According to the MVA, average wait times are now just five minutes when appointments are scheduled, a significant shift from the long lines many Maryland drivers remember from ten years ago.
