Is Maryland in Store For Another Major Snow Storm This Week?

As storm clean-up continues in frigid temperatures and we await any additional impacts on schools and schedules, you may have seen maps circulating online suggesting the potential for a major storm this weekend. At this point, that scenario remains firmly in the “monitoring” phase.

Overnight model runs showed a coastal system that could have impacted our region, but newer guidance this afternoon shifted the storm farther east and out into the Atlantic. The latest European model moved the system from a potential hit to an out-to-sea solution.

The National Weather Service has introduced a limited threat for snow Saturday into Sunday. However, with the system now inside the five-day window, future model runs would need to trend back west for snow to become a more realistic concern for our area. Trends this evening and overnight will be important in determining whether that happens.
