The New England Patriots are headed to the Super Bowl on February 8, and two Montgomery County natives have played key roles in helping the team reach the NFL’s biggest stage, wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins.
Diggs is a Gaithersburg native who starred at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, where he emerged as one of the nation’s top recruits. He went on to play at the University of Maryland before beginning his NFL career. Hollins grew up in Rockville and attended Thomas Sprigg Wootton High School, later becoming a standout receiver and special teams player at the University of North Carolina before establishing himself in the league through versatility and physical play.
Diggs delivered a strong regular season, finishing with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns while starting all 17 games. Hollins recorded 46 catches for 550 yards and two touchdowns in 13 starts. He was placed on injured reserve on December 27, but returned in time for the AFC Championship game and is expected to play in the Super Bowl.
