Water Main Break Causes Lane Closures on Rockville Pike

A water main break in the Maplewood neighborhood of North Bethesda is causing traffic disruptions Wednesday as water flows onto Rockville Pike and Cedar Lane, according to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer.

The break originated in the 5000 block of Acacia Avenue, behind the Boy Scouts building. Several lanes near the intersection of Rockville Pike and Cedar Lane remain blocked while crews work at the scene. Officials said water appears deeper in the northbound lanes of Rockville Pike.

WSSC crews are currently on-site.

A traffic advisory remains in effect for the area near Rockville Pike and Cedar Lane, close to the NIH campus in North Bethesda. With cold temperatures expected, officials warned the ongoing water flow could freeze later, creating icy and hazardous driving conditions.

Drivers are urged to use caution, expect delays, and consider alternate routes while repairs continue.
