Bojangles Seeks Approval For Second Maryland Restaurant Since Return in 2024

Developers are seeking approval for a new Bojangles restaurant in Frederick County, which would mark the fast food chain’s second Maryland location, both located within the county.

According to a report by Frederick City Media, plans have been submitted for a 2,736 square foot Bojangles at Oakdale Crossing along Lake Linganore Boulevard. If approved, the project would expand the brand’s recent return to the state following its Frederick opening in the fall of 2024.

Bojangles previously had a presence in Maryland, but those locations closed in late 2023. In an interview with WUSA9, a Bojangles spokesperson said all five Maryland locations were owned by the same franchisee who left the Bojangles system. While locations in Oxon Hill and Upper Marlboro continued to appear as open on Google and even on the company’s website for a period of time, all five restaurants had shut down by the end of 2023.

Founded in 1977, Bojangles built its brand around a quick service model focused on a distinctive flavor profile, made from scratch menu items, and fast, friendly service. The chain officially returned to Maryland in September 2024 with the opening of its Frederick restaurant at 1312 West Patrick Street.

An opening timeline for the proposed Oakdale Crossing location has not yet been announced, and the project will still need to move through the approval process.
