Maryland State Police arrested Rayshaud Davon Shield, 32, of Upper Marlboro, after a crash early Saturday morning in Prince George’s County that left a state trooper injured.
The incident occurred shortly after 7 am on southbound Branch Avenue near Moores Road, where a trooper had stopped to check on an unoccupied vehicle parked in the right lane. According to police, the trooper’s marked patrol vehicle was parked behind the disabled vehicle with emergency lights activated when it was struck from behind by a black Ford F-150.
Investigators say the impact caused the patrol vehicle to strike the trooper, who was standing outside at the time. The trooper was transported to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center for treatment and has since been released. Shield has been charged with suspected impaired driving and related traffic offenses and is being held at the Prince George’s County Detention Center pending a court commissioner review. The Maryland State Police College Park Barrack is leading the ongoing investigation, with assistance from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration during road closures.
