Some light snow is possible Friday evening into Friday night, with up to a half inch possible across parts of Maryland and Virginia. More importantly, dangerously cold air will follow.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), an Extreme Cold Watch remains in effect from late Friday night through Sunday morning. Wind chills between 0 and 15 degrees below zero are possible across Washington, DC, much of Maryland, northern and western Virginia, and eastern West Virginia. Wind chills are expected to remain at or below zero for much of the day on Saturday due to strong winds and very cold temperatures.
These conditions can lead to frostbite and hypothermia if proper precautions are not taken. Per the NWS, if you must be outside, dress in layers and cover exposed skin, including your face, hands, and head. Keep pets indoors as much as possible, and make sure any outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter with food and unfrozen water. Check in on older family members, friends, and neighbors. Use space heaters safely, and never run generators or grills indoors.
