Montgomery County Public Libraries is celebrating the 10th anniversary of MoComCon this March, marking a decade of one of the county’s most popular fandom-focused events.
MoComCon is a free, two-day celebration of comics, graphic novels, cosplay, and pop culture, with programming for children, teens, and adults. Events will take place at Germantown Library and the adjacent BlackRock Center for the Arts.
Festivities begin Friday, March 20, 2026, with an evening event for teens and adults at BlackRock Center for the Arts from 6pm to 8pm. Programming continues Saturday, March 21, with kid and family friendly activities at Germantown Library from 10am to 4pm, and additional teen and adult events at BlackRock Center for the Arts from 11am to 5pm. In addition to panels and activities, MoComCon will once again feature its annual art and cosplay contests.
The MoComCon art contest will award prizes to first, second, and third place winners, as well as honorable mentions, across multiple age groups. Entries will be judged on creativity and originality, technical skill, visual impact, emotional engagement, and overall impression. Finalists and winners will be notified prior to MoComCon, and prizes may be picked up at the participant’s selected library location after Wednesday, April 10, 2026. Judges’ decisions are final.
The cosplay contest will take place in person on Saturday, March 21, from 3pm to 5pm at BlackRock Center for the Arts. Two age groups are eligible to enter: teens ages 13-17 and adults 18 and older. Participants do not need a library card, but are limited to one entry per person. Entry forms must be submitted in person at the MoComCon information table beginning at 11am on Saturday, March 21. Space is limited to the first 20 entries per age group.
Cosplay prizes will be awarded live in four categories for each age group: Best Presentation, Most Creative, Judge’s Choice, and Peer-to-Peer Award. Contestants must be present to participate and win. Costumes must be appropriate for a family environment and comply with all library behavior guidelines.
Children ages 0-12 are also invited to participate in a cosplay parade prior to the contest. The parade lineup will begin at 2:30pm in the Germantown Library’s ground-level meeting room and conclude at the BlackRock main stage by 3:15pm. Participation is limited to the first 30 children. Children will not be judged, and names will not be announced. An adult must accompany all participants.
MoComCon will also feature contributors and exhibitors, with participants including DC Anime Club, Friends of the Library Montgomery County, Risucon, and Superhero Support. Additional exhibitors will be announced closer to the event.
Graphic novel and nonfiction reading lists curated for children, teens, and adults will be available as part of the celebration. More details and updates will be released as the event approaches.
